  1. from Elephant & Castle during the rush hour on the Bakerloo line? TfL's site is claiming that the journey (11 stops) only takes 19 minutes, but I find this a bit hard to believe. I need to know as I have an interview for a job on Wednesday and I am trying to plan my journey.
  2. No, she married my Grandfather and in those days once you got married you were expected to become a housewife and mother. Though I'm inclined to agree with you LanguageLounger.
  3. Slightly off the point, but my grandmother was in service between the World Wars with a family composed of 2 sisters and a brother. They owned one of those huge mansion flats in the Albany and a shooting lodge in Scotland. The brother would go shooting each season and bring back pheasant. Now of course, as you all know, pheasants have to be hung until they are 'high' before being cooked. So my grandmother would have to pluck the 'high' pheasants, with maggots crawling up her arms ............:'(
  4. The owners of Dulwich DIY who know Parkhill Paul well told me that the development above the White Stuff is not Parkhill, but is being run by two former Parkhill directors.
  5. According to www.yell.com this bookshop is in the Goose Green Trading Estate. Has anyone on the EDF been in and is it any good?
  6. I used to live on Croxted Road as a child and there were repeated problems with the pipes in the area bursting then, so I am afraid this is nothing new and will happen again unless the pipes are replaced.
  7. Now, if we could only get the shop/freehold owners on Lordship Lane to remove the rendering on their properties and restore the sweeping redbrick terrace from before the First World War; and persuade Southern Rail to reinstate the portico (is that the right word?) at East Dulwich Station ................
  8. A branch of TAS EV would be fantastic, delicatessen + bakery + restaurant.
  9. I had writen to BJ about something else, and was about to write again not having received a reply when the following pinged into my inbox: "The Mayor would like to thank you for your interest and is keen to answer your query as fully as possible. But as you would appreciate, he has received a lot of correspondence and [sic] still in the process of putting together a team to take forward his policies. I would like to refer you to the GLA website for details of the Mayor's policy ideas. This information can be accessed via this link www.london.gov.uk/mayor. The website will also carry the press releases that are issued as policies are refined, published and put into practice. Once again, thank you for contacting the Mayor. Yours sincerely," I think this is the most that JRussell can expect in the short-term.
  10. I had thought the flat above the Golden City was unoccupied and asked Southwark's Empty Homes Unit about it, but it seems that it is actually occupied. What amazes me is that with all the powers which local authorities have at their disposal, seemingly they can do nothing about commercial properties which are unoccupied and left to fall into disrepair and ultimately become eyesores. I find it hard to believe that this is Parliament's intention.
  11. I would like to know what the situation is with Dulwich Janitorial Supplies on Lordship Lane which has been empty for years.
  12. If TJMP has misrepresented the contents of a survey she should be reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner and the NEC of the Labour Party, if Councillors have been abusive they should be reported both to the Leader of the Council and to the Committee on Standards in Public Life. Moreover, if a committee as a whole has not properly dealt with information presented to it, the committee should be reported to the CoSPL as well. There is also the possibility of a complaint to the Local Government Ombudsman. The best thing to do is to seek expert advice from a Planning/Local Government lawyer.
  13. At least your lights have been completely installed. My road still has a mixture of old and new because someone at LB Southwark thought it sensible to let EDF take its own time about completing the installation, instead of having to comply with a timetable set by the authority. Have you tried speaking to the Councillor for your ward about the excessive lux level?
  14. Lousiana It is always open to you to make a formal complaint both to the Chief Planning Officer and the Chairman of the relevant Committee about your views not being properly represented. Every local authority has a complaints procedure and it should be on the website.
  15. Foxtons are selling the redeveloped former hotel on Overhill Road, their signs have been up for weeks but as far as I know not one of the flats has sold. Foxtons are also selling something at #455 Lordship Lane, but have managed to put their sign right in front of the tree in the front garden so it is now completely obscured by the tree's summer growth. The owners of the huge house on the corner of Overhill/Lordship are selling through Property Broker, but my personal opinion is that they will need to address the appearance of their enormous front garden. Apparently it is a really well-cared garden from the house's perspective, but from the street it just shouts "thousands of pounds' worth of work needed".
  16. It's owned by the Whatmough Trust, I have the address if anyone wants to contact them. Alternatively, Building Control at Southwark might know what is happening.
  17. Does anyone know how one would contact Google directly? I have tried looking through its various menus and have been unable to find anything like e.g. customer services.
  18. Does anyone on the EDF have or have access to old photos of Belvoir Road, similar to the ones of Lordship Lane that have been posted on the Forum?
  19. Yes, covenants are on the title deeds and these can be downloaded from the Land Registry site for a small fee.
  20. Does anyone know why so many emergency vehicles have been screaming around ED all day?
  21. Given the recent very serious trouble which nPower found itself in, have any of you informed nPower's customer services about this?
  22. I have just spoken to a very helpful person at Virgin, who took me through ping and speed tests on my PC. There is definitely not an area problem, but I did pass on the address of the Forum and she looked at that too, so Virgin is now aware that something is going on in East Dulwich. Anyone who wants some technical support should call 151 from their phone (if supplied by Virgin).
