We are renovating a Victorian house in East Dulwich, and have used the forum to find most of the tradespeople working on the project. We?re getting towards the end of the job and I wanted to recommend our plasterer John McCann to anyone considering having similar work done.

The house was structurally sound but looked terrible when we started, and John has done a fantastic job re-plastering the entire house. He organized workers to strip the walls back to the original plaster, and then himself: overboarded and skim plastered the ceilings where needed; fixed some pretty substantial cracks throughout the house; hacked-off and re-rendered or plaster-boarded the worst-affected walls; and did a beautiful job with the skim plastering. The walls have a great finish to them, looking really smooth and solid.

Apart from doing great work, John is also cost-conscious, tidy, and extremely trustworthy. We left the keys with him throughout the work, and always felt that the house was being well-looked after (locking up when he left, taking in mail, accepting deliveries for us). To date, everything is on budget and running smoothly. He?s also a pleasure to have around, very friendly, and great at dealing with our toddler running around the site.

His number is 07905 044912, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I would also like to recommend John. He skim plastered a ropey kitchen ceiling for us at short notice because out usual plasterer was busy and we needed the work done quickly. John was friendly and tidy, and did a great job with the ceiling.

BTW Our usual plasterer is Aaron who I'd also recommend (lots of mentions for him on the forum)- again good job, friendly guy and clean and tidy, and all at a fair price.

Just wanted to add my recommendation for John McCann the Plasterer, he has just plastered my three bedrooms and living room. The quality of his work is to an exceptional standard, he is an extremely nice guy, really easy to get on with and has been a pleasure to have in the house.

I would have no hesitation in using his services for other parts of my house if it is required. John does everything he can to please the customer and is great at communicating with you to ensure that he does what is required.

I am extremely happy with the job he has completed, and it has been easy for the decorator to come and do his job because the surface is so smooth and to an excellent finish.

I would also like to recommend John. This is the second job that he has done for me and again, the quality he has acheived is second to none. The room was in a very poor state and now looks fantastic. I am decorating the room myself and the finish John has managed to get is making my life simple with no real preparation required before painting. John is reliable, turning up when he says, and was very accommodating when I added some extra bits to the job that he originally came to do. John McCann 07905 044912

Another recommendation for John McCann. I have been unfortunate in the past with plasterers, I am a perfectionist and John was my 4th plasterer in 4 months, I so wish I had found him sooner,he has done a fantastic job. Great finish, reasonably priced, punctual, friendly and tidy. Thank you John, his number is 07905044912. Message me if you want to look at his work.

Recommended plasterer. We had John McCann (07905044912) plaster our living room last week. He was super friendly, provided a really good price and was very quick and efficient. All our Victorian walls were not straight and he did a great job to transform the room. Highly recommended.

I have a Victorian property in East Dulwich with ornate cornice and ceiling rose. I saw the reviews of John McCann's work (07905044912) on this forum and employed him to re-plaster my damaged ceiling. John has done a fabulous job and really took care of the original features which I was concerned about losing. My dad came around to help me paint it at the weekend and was extremely impressed with the work carried out (and he's a hard man to please!).

I am of no relation to John, just a very happy customer, who would definitely recommend him.

He gave us the best quote, arrived early, worked late and has done a fantastic job of re-plastering our entire bedroom (walls and ceiling). It was in a terrible state and now looks like new. He also made good our kitchen after we removed all the coving.

He's trustworthy, reliable, a really nice guy and was very happy to have the company of our dogs while he worked. We can't recommend he highly enough. He has done two jobs for us since we moved to East Dulwich last year and each one has been to a very high standard. As we are renovating our flat we will be asking Aaron back for all the plastering work.

    • Denmark Hill to Clapham Junction then pick up the 345 from Falcon Road ( exit Clapham Junction Station from the back entrance) The overground will terminate on platform one anyway so you're already on that side of the station. The 345 bit should take you approximately 30 minutes and the overground from Denmark Hill to CJ approximately 15 minutes. All the best!!
    • I would go to Victoria (185 bus or Southern Rail) then get either a bus from there to Chelsea Town hall (I think it may be the C1 but I'm not sure..I moved from that area over 25 years ago) and the Royal Marsden is a short walk from there. OR get a Underground from Victoria to Sloane square and a Taxi from there to Royal Marsden..It would'nt cost much because its a few mins away..or a bus from Sloane Square to Chelsea Town Hall or Fulham Rd/Sydney St
    • I don't know how the law works, nor what rules cover what doctors can and can't say in their professional and private (?personal?) capacities,  but on the face of it I agree that some of the comments quoted are unacceptable, to say the least. However, in the context of the subject of this thread,  I think it is important to differentiate between antisemitism ("hostility to or prejudice against Jewish people") and hostility to  the Israeli government's apparent attempted genocide of Palestinian civilians in retribution for the appalling attack on Israeli civilians by Hamas. I might be completely wrong here, and naive, and I am sure someone will correct me if I am, but it seems to me to be as if the English government had started trying to annihilate the whole of the  Irish population because of the IRA bombings in the nineties. I also realise that there is a whole historic background to the Palestine/Israel thing, but I am not familiar with it. Anyway, I and everyone I know who has taken part in any of the recent marches has done so to try to get our government to stop supporting genocide, not because they are antisemitic. And yes there are other awful things going on in the world, and always have been. I can't fight all of them. One of my brothers has taken in three generations of  a Ukrainian family. ETA: Do you really think it is OK to refer to people as "blacks"? Or am I wrong about that as well, and there is some reason why it is acceptable?
