Except that it is wrong.

The Mag south? I can understand you not wanting to go as far as The Grove, but surely you have to go at least to The Plough / The Library (where Barry Road starts / ends).

This shows that East Dulwich is within the parish of St. John the Evangelist, but that doesn't end the debate; the neighbouring parish of St. Giles contains Camberwell and Denmark Hill, and they're distinct locales aren't they?

To end this dispute and proove who is correct, use your feet and read the SE22 on those Road Signs.

Most people have taken the trouble to find out where they live.

Perhaps those saying that a certain place is at a certain point take a picture of the Road Sign in situe and post it here.

Debate?

Bellenden Village was built on the fields of East Dulwich.

Historic fact.

SE22 is the area that has its mail processed by Silvester Road.

SE15 is the area that has its mail processed by Highshore Road.

Both designations are first world war inventions.

What do you think it means?

I think it means that in 1877 a parish existed that included Bellenden. I think that that parish no longer exists and that we don't define our areas by parish anymore.

The area now known as Crystal Palace (a big area with it's own train station and park) was once called Penge. Then history happened and it is now Crystal Palace.

Forest Hill was once a forest, on a hill. Things change.

Be proud of the lovely part of Peckham that you live in.

Ooh no - that bit's ghastly. Might as well be Lewisham!

Isn't the official southern boundary the north side of Wood Vale since that's the Southwark boundary and it's still served by the Dulwich telephone exchange although the postcode is SE23. Having said that, the western end of Wood Vale feels more like Forest Hill and the eastern end feels closer to Honor Oak so who knows.

The issue of this process is irrelavant, as in any emergency the post would be directed to Mount Pleasant.

No mater where it was collected.

The parish existed before 1877 and before Bellenden was even dreamt of by Victorian property developers.

Would you prefer a map showing the secular boundary?

And as a footnote, you might want to reconsider your histories of Crystal Palace, Penge, and Forest Hill.

An interesting quirk of history is that Penge was once part of Battersea.

The forest hill thing was meant to be a joke. The point is, we live in 2012, and no one except for you would conside Bellenden Road to be part of East Dulwich. It's not even borderline close.

You say that post codes don't count because they came in around WW1. I dread to think what you think about Israel!

This is the current postal district and local authority boundary.

The original East Dulwich boundary ran between Horniman's Museum and the petrol station.

There is a boundary post on One Tree Hill showing the boundary immediately before the current one.

Why is it not even borderline close?

    • Just a quick post to say that my restaurant reviews column is now one year old. There are 45 reviews here* - mostly of local places (some sadly now defunct, others thriving). There are a couple of recipes from a period when I couldn't afford to eat out, a couple of moans about my health when I couldn't eat out on doctor's orders and a couple of reviews beyond our manor. But the main thing is that it is a free, useful guide to local dining and, I hope, an entertaining read. You can, of course, pay to subscribe or follow for free to get the reviews directly into your inbox as I don't want to spam EDF with every review (doctor says I'm not allowed spam anyway). The pictures below come from my two most popular reviews - Persepolis (new SE22 spin-off opening soon) and Norbert's, a great addition to East Dulwich. Please have a read and please consider subscribing. Did I mention you can subscribe for free?   https://eatsdulwich.substack.com/  *It would have been 46 but one review didn't run because the meal was so disappointing. I try not to be negative. To paraphrase Boyzone (or is it Westlife?) I said it best by saying nothing at all.
    • I'd like to recommend Andy - came out very last minute to help us with a rental property that was having plumbing issues. We couldn't source the problem but Andy was able to find it / fix it easily & took the stress out of the problem. We have booked him again to put in a new bath for us now too as we were so happy with this work.    Lovely fella - thoroughly recommend using! Andy's number is 07983 688 451
