CPZ zone.....

Not wanting to stoke the fire but.....

Having sold up and moved out (1 month ago) of SE22 non CPZ hell zone and now living less than 1 mile away in postcode SE5 that is CPZ (between 10-2pm Mon - Fri ONLY). I have to say that although i am ?145 worse off, i can now park outside my house every single day (imagine such a thing), I have no commuter traffic clogging the roads (and yet i live near a station), workmen etc plan their trips to avoid the CPZ times (thus making it even easier to nail down when they will arrive), there is a lovely community spirit AND all the local shops still seem to be open and survive...

I live in SE22 and park outside my house every day. If you don't want it to be difficult, don't buy a house too close to the station.

I live in a road just outside a CPZ and it's absolute hell. Loads of vans etc. parking in our street and people doing all sorts of sneaky things to hog/block spaces for themselves. Does anyone know how we would go about asking the council to extend the zone into our road?

I used to work in SW11. To get a permit involved a trip to the council offices, ???, my driver's license, proof of address, car ownership documents, and still no guarantee of a parking place.

Here in SE22 there is no problem, and I park outside my house every day.

Having lived in SE22 non CPZ happy zone for 17 years. I have to say that although I am ?145 better off each year than garnwba, I can park outside my house every single day (imagine such a thing), I have no commuter traffic clogging the roads (and yet i live near a station), workmen etc don't have to plan their trips to avoid the CPZ times (thus making it even easier to nail down when they will arrive and usually at my convenience), there is a lovely community spirit AND all the local shops still seem to be open and survive...

None of which would be the case for my road if a CPZ had been forced upon us.

the council want to extend a CPZ into my SE15 road (I think we're probably quite close to the OP's zone) which I so don't bloody want; yes parking CAN be a bit tricky in the day (though I'd say 50% of the time I can park outside my own house, and most of the rest of the time pretty near it) but it's actually worse in the evening, when there wouldn't be a CPZ in force. Cash cow for the council, methinks. Quiet road, not that close to the station, but surrounded by CPZs (which will be one of the reasons why parking might be trickier), so obviously the council want us to be paying for the right to still not necessarily be able to park outside our own homes. Hurumph.

I manage to park outside my house and I share a road with Dell Autos and their many customers. I sometimes have to park around the corner, or wait for a spot, especially on Saturdays (which probably wouldn't be patrolled as a CPZ), but that's a small price to pay for having a car in London and being next to a vibrant High Street. No CPZ.

Garnwba. Pleased your life is so much better now you can park outside your front door. Hope the CPZ hasn't had an undue effect on anybody else in your area and I hope it was implmeented with the support of the local community. Just reading back through your postings from 12 months ago. You argued the toss then too.

And there is the problem. The ever expanding CPZ, as parking problems just get pushed out to the next place.

clearly you are stoking the fire...or trying to, and there's James ready to jump in just in case. We've done CPZ to death, we don't wnat it. However, I fear for the fallout from the forthcoming Garden Centre development which has lots of new falts but no provision for parking.

Highly paid consultants to be paid, very expensive rent increasing building at Tooley street, ?125million,overall cost for the life of the lease.

Bottom line push thru as many revenue schemes as possible hoping that people will not notice and object.

Just been announced in Southwark News that Southwark Council has made a ?150 million offer for their building at Tooley Street. More CPZ's needed to fund this.

Amazing that non revenue producing concerns have no worries in spending money they dont have and only have by raising bills.

Look at all charges very carefully from now on

Unless I am mistaken there are no 2hr CPZs in SE5 - only at Herne Hill.

I have started a thread in the Lounge on whether there might be alternaives to the current CPZ funding model that would be more acceptable to residents - ie cheaper.

we have just successfully fought off cpz in se15 south of bellenden road. we don't want it or need it.
