  1. Hi there, I can't tell you much about Goose Green, but we had two kids at Bessemer who both loved it and thrived there. Our younger one left last year for secondary school. As you're probably aware, Bessemer has v good outdoor space for inner London, including a nature garden with chickens (if the foxes haven't eaten all of them), plus they have access on occasion to the playing fields of the school next door. The staff were all excellent during the time our kids were there, and there was a really lovely community feel about the school. Hope all goes well. D
  2. It’s not really an argument from my side. Like I said, if there’s something I misunderstood in the OP, please feel free to set me straight. Appreciate the candour and the good-natured response, but it doesn’t really serve as a free pass to do whatever suits you best regardless of impact on anyone else. And the comments about the fairness of owners and renters having access to school places read as disingenuous. There are plenty of rental properties within catchment of that school including some large tracts of social housing. You said that you own your own home. That places you in a minority in this borough. You also seem to have the financial wherewithal to juggle things around at will if it suits. So sorry if I’m not buying the ‘poor me’ aspect of this. On the upside, there are many other great schools in the borough, mostly rated as Good or Outstanding. Good luck in your search for the right school.
  3. Obviously renters can apply for places at Southwark school places just like everybody else but this seems, by your own description, like deliberate gaming of the system, the net result of which would be to deprive a child who genuinely meets the admissions criteria of this place. Help me out if I've missed something. And what you're asking is simply 'will I get caught'? Again, please help me out here if I've misunderstood. In this case I think, as others have pointed out the answer is: yes, you probably would. Hope this helps.
  4. The short answer would seem to be no, not in this coming election anyway. If the Tories put up a heavyweight, London friendly (socially progressive) candidate, they might stand half a chance. But for whatever reason, they haven't fancied the odds the last two elections and have stood candidates who no-one had heard of and have shown themselves to be weak by any measurable standard. So looks like another easy win for Sadiq... he quite possibly won't fancy a third term, and next election will be against the backdrop of a Labour govt who might well be struggling to fulfil their agenda.
  5. Hi there, There are a few clubs round here that compete in the Selkent league who all have matches on Sundays; with Athenlay, Dulwich Village and Hillyfielders being the nearest. At this point in the season, it's too late for players to join an active team, but you might be able to get him added to a training group with a view to him joining a team for the next season. There's also Tulse Hill Juniors nearby who play in the Tandridge League - also on Sundays Hope this is helpful
  6. Thanks for that - I already got myself a ticket at Tessa Jowell on the first day of owning the car - doh!!
  7. That's helpful thank you, although mainly confirms what we already knew. There are lamp-post chargers on our street but you can't always get close to them.
  8. Thank you for the responses on this. I had a ticket already, but had a couple of late additions to our party who hadn't bought in advance, so we got there at 2:30 pm. We queued up for a long time; after kick-off and eventually got in once the staff were able to work out how many season-ticket holders had not turned up. I'll know for next time 🙂
  9. Thanks for that. Do you know, does that mean I can buy tickets at 1:30 and then come back?
  10. Does anyone have any top tips for a new EV/Hybrid driver on where to charge-up? What is the deal with the Source charging points on Townley Road? Do you need to be a member? Are the ones at Sainsbury's ever working? Thanks
  11. Does anyone know, if online tickets are sold out - can you go to the ground in advance of ko on the day to buy tickets, or is it just pay as you go through the turnstile?
  12. Cripes, I'm not sure this would get past the sub-editor of one of those glossy circulars estate agents publish. A couple of questions: How does the name East Dulwich imply that it's located in south-east London? Is the station in 'heart of the area'? Have they moved it?
  13. Greene King own Metropolitan Pub Co, which in turn owns local pubs The Bishop, The Actress and The Angel Oak (Peckham Rye Hotel) Those pubs may or may not be to your taste, but they're far cry from the GK dross of Chef and Brewer, Hungry Horse etc..
  14. Had tickets for Young Fathers at Hammersmith but then couldn't go at the very last minute - gutted!! Saw Lankum in the Summer which was pretty intense.
  15. Yes. I hope that's clear enough for you, and that's how pretty much all other cycle-lanes in London are. Proximity to pollution isn't the core issue here, it's creating a space on the existing road for cyclists to use. It's not even a busy road but it's quite unpleasant and a little concerning to cycle up that hill at the moment being tail-gated by impatient drivers waiting to try and squeeze through the fairly short gaps between traffic islands.
  16. It's moot point, as that's obviously not what the council are minded to do. But it's not a path as such currently, it's part of the Common where the grass has gone from people walking along the side.
  17. Why encroach on the green space that we have?
  18. Interesting question Innocent until proven guilty is a criminal law concept. The Times/C4/anyone else are free to state/publish facts as they see fit. Russell Brand has a reputation for litigation and is at liberty to pursue further actions that he thinks he would win. He would only need to action against one or two parties to establish his case, any others would then settle out of court. So it seems that those publishing these accusations are VERY confident he would not be able to do so. This case/story has been bubbling under for years now and I'm sure that the relevant in-house lawyers are very confident no succesful challenge can be made. That is the law of the land we live in, and there is nothing new about. Also, the crimes he is accused of are serious sexual assaults and rape. They are not in any way 'thought-crimes' and the comparison is a bit icky to say the least.
  19. I'm pretty confident both the schools and the police are aware
  20. Apart from anything else, I'm not sure it's within the council's gift to tarmac over common land.
  21. Thanks for flagging this Spartacus. I wasn't at the fete and was unaware this was happening. It looks like a very welcome improvement to me. I travel that way sometimes, often after dark, and it's quite unpleasant cycling up that hill with cars trying to muscle past inbetween the quite frequently spaced traffic islands. I tend not to use the dirt-track along the side of the Common for a number of reasons, mainly around poor visibility, personal safety and it getting quite muddy outside of the summer months. A future link up all the way to pedestrian/cycle bridge by Brockley Mews would be awesome. I often cycle that way with my kids to access the Waterlink Way and though most the side roads in Nunhead are pretty quiet, the strectch as you go past Brenchley Gdns always feels a bit dicey. Thanks again and sorry that you found the wording on the poster triggering.
  22. Do you dislike cyclists, Dave? Straight yes or no will do just fine
