  1. No, not at all. If and when Thames Water see fit to impose a hosepipe ban, I have no reason to believe they would not comply. Do you? I know most of the state schools round here don't have playing fields, and that's a different story. But I think you may find that State schools around the country are maintaining (watering) their playing fields where allowed - as are the many other sports field owners and custodians in this area; which include private sports clubs, Dulwich Hamlet FC and Peckham Town, at least one state school's remote playing fields, and charities offering sports provision for kids.
  2. Welcome. For stuff to do with them or activity clubs for them to attend whilst you unpack? For the former - you will know about some of these already but I recommend: Dulwich Park has a lake with pedalos, also recumbent bikes for hire, Horniman Museum is brilliant for kids that age, loads of interactive stuff indoors and outside Crystal Palace Park is nice and has the remains of the original Palace plus some historic dinosaur statues Battersea Park has a small zoo with adventure playground - also Go Ape (treetop adventures) The South Bank of the Thames has lots going on including Tate Modern which is free entry so you can dip in and out without buying tickets.
  3. Hopefully this is helpful... Once kids turn 11 and enter secondary school, the norm is very much to travel unaccompanied to school. Most boys at that age would be horrified at the thought of being escorted to and from. And sure, lots of kids live near to their school, but there are many who will have longer and more complex journeys, and do them every day without too many dramas. How much will really change developmentally between the age of 10 & 11? A bit for sure, but if you could be confident of an 11 yr old doing it, maybe it's not so much of a stretch for a bright and capable 10 yr old. Especially if there is an option for a bit of a soft-landing/bedding in to the process. And what are the alternatives? He is (will be)Y6 so he could stay at his current primary or is that not an option? I'm guessing you are thinking that either your ex escorts him which is a massive chunk of time, and possibly not feasible; or you review your co-parenting situation (at least temporarily) - how much upset would the cause?
  4. Agreed that it's a real issue. Many/most of these retailers offer free delivery and returns. That's a big part of how they took so much business away from the high street. Time will tell how good a model that really is; the demise of one retailer might be an indicator of something, but probably not conclusive proof. Don't forget these retailers don't have the costs of running a branch operation and all that entails: Rent, rates, utilities, fit out, staffing costs plus the costs with making sure the right products are in stock at every branch and the reality that in doing so you're going to get left with a lot that people didn't buy, which you then need to discount or maybe not sell at all. Online retailers just don't have all those costs, so they can stomach some level of delivery and return cost.

  6. Absolutely agree - the site should be left as found - certainly in terms of litter. My understanding is that this is written into their contract and enforceable, so would expect that to happen as it has in previous years.
  7. That is quite a lot of litter... hopefully as they had folk out there yesterday afternoon picking up litter, that will continue until the site is clear. It's a shame after picking up what looked like a 3" screw you just chucked it back on the floor again. Maybe you could have spent that two minutes more productively - although do appreciate your self-awareness
  8. Maybe... or maybe articles like this are generally written by people who aren't from London, live in Zone 2 and have never spent much time in Croydon, Enfield or Bromley. I expect this 'hot-take' might read quite differently if that were so.

  10. They had people there on their hands on knees picking up very small bits of rubbish when I was there late yesterday afternoon.

To be fair, I had assumed the inverted commas meant he/she was being sarcastic. By the way, you do realise they are just a wind-up merchant don't you?

  13. I'm sure they have, but that means different things to different people I guess. The info was sent to me in an email as I had expressed interest. If you want to DM me your email address I can forward it on. Understand if you don't want to and would rather wait,
  14. What's going on with the old etate agent's by Goose Green roundabout?

All of the quotes you used are on the Friends of Peckham Rye website - http://www.peckhamryepark.org/news They don't quote any source or evidence for this claim either. The application was amended withdrawing the 'in perpetuity' aspect + some other amendments to reflect concerns that had been raised. The Licensing Authority then withdrew their representations against. TBF I don't think this info is on Southwark's website yet, but it was communicated by email to parties who have expressed interest.
  16. Envisage away, but Gala have a licence for one event per year lasting for a maximum of three days. Could you give any specifics on what areas of the park have yet to recover? I don't see that when I'm over there. I completely agree that trying to hold a street party in one of the very near-by roads would not be the best idea while the festival is on. Luckily we have a four-day bank holiday weekend, and GALA only runs for three days.
  17. As per the title, which establishment serves up the best brekko in the local area? Can be either traditional fare or something slightly more exotic... I rarely eat breakfast out, but am planning to tomorrow and am not really sure where to go.
  18. The video that was shared had a caption stating that the rider opted to go on a driver awareness course rather than pay a fine. Taking that at face value, it would suggest the police were willing to get involved for his previous misdemeanor(s). That footage was taken by a cyclist with a GoPro style camera. There's a guy who reports hundreds of bad drivers to the police https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/cars/1545332/cyclist-reported-drivers-to-police and apparently has an 80% prosecution success rate. The thing is, someone would need to catch him on camera for the police to be able to prosecute - or for them to catch him in the act. But the reality is they are probably not going to run a stake-out op in Trossachs Road to catch some wally doing wheelies...
  19. 'Honest(Y) at last' is what you said - I don't mind at all being called honest... maybe you could clarify what you meant by 'at last' - I inferred that meant: not so, up until now. Please feel free to correct me. I'm sorry you don't like the phrase 'overwhelming victory' - It's factually accurate. I suspect it's the actuality of it that rankles more than the phrase... but everyone needs a way to vent, I guess. heartblock Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I called you honest, but if that offends... > > "the overwhelming victory of the pro-LTN > councillors" > > and yes this does read as an unpleasant take in my > eyes, considering the pain caused and I'm happy to > be honest and say that. 20. They won an electoral victory - that's an objective fact isn't it? Only in your mind does that infer 'enemy'. Only in your mind does an electoral victory preclude "working with, consulting, bringing a community together." I've never been anything other than honest when posting on this forum. I don't particularly like the insinuation otherwise.
  21. Even if the forum continues, which I hope it does, there must come a point when this dialogue across its many threads becomes redundant. You would think that point would have been the overwhelming victory of the pro-LTN councillors in the election last week.. but maybe we need to allow a bit of time for the reality to settle in
  22. It's closed Dave, which to me seemed like an inevitability from the outset. Hopefully someone will come in quickly and make a better fist of it. It's a great space! CPR Dave Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Does anyone know if "The Brougham" is still open?
  23. I've never heard anyone local refer to LL as 'The Lane' - It's a reverse shibboleth.

  25. Or we could just leave it there...?
