The thing that really stuck out for me was the absolute dominance of heritage acts on the first three stages, certainly in terms of the styles of music that I listen to which is pretty broad. There was a smattering of newer R&B/Pop and Rap acts but very little when it came to anything else. The festival had loads of new and innovative acts I like; Ezra Collective, Comet is Coming, Young Fathers, Billy Nomates, Confidence Man to name but a few - so I would have had a ball, but wouldn't have gone near any of the main stages, I don't think. The other thing that would really bother me is the ever-increasing number of punters with high levels of main character syndrome.

This isn't, by chance, yet another LTN thread is it?

I'm gonna throw it out there that it's going to be the 'double-down' option...

Is that music the Gala festival already?

How are you measuring that, DKH? -

Peckham Rye is an open space and road in the London Borough of Southwark in London, England. The roughly triangular open space lies to the south of Peckham town centre. It is managed by Southwark Council and consists of two contiguous areas, with Peckham Rye Common to the north and Peckham Rye Park to the south https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peckham_Rye -

I live very close to the park, and I'm fine with it. In fact I think it's great to see so many people enjoying themselves in this wonderful green space we have. Inevitably there is some trade-off; they do their best with crowd management, litter etc - but it's not yet and may never be perfect. It takes up a fraction of the total space of Peckham Rye and there are loads of other spots to play frisbee, walk your dog etc To the question about the expansion, I think there needs to be a limit. My understanding is that they want the second weekend to be more family friendly and have greater appeal to those who live in the immediate area which sounds good to me. I would say I 100% support the 3 days as is, cautiously support an additional 3 days, would have some serious concern about anything beyond that. -
Foxtons on Lordship Lane soon to become a Poundland Local

Feeling rather hungry on my way home yesterday, I stopped in at Curries on the OKR - imagine my disappointment -
Hey Spartacus, You don't really need to use quotation marks if you're not quoting anybody - ie no-one actually said that. And your characterisation of concern for children's health as "posturing" is pretty revealing I must say.

Has this become the new LTN thread by stealth?

Semantics - the branch of linguistics and logic concerned with meaning Yes, that's exactly what I am doing.

Again... conflict of interest is not the same as vested interest - as in potential for personal gain or advancement. That's quite an accusation, and left uncorrected undermines your argument imho
-
But having a stated position and a vested interest are absolutely not one and the same thing. vested interest /ˌvɛstɪd ˈɪntrɛst/ noun 1.a personal reason for involvement in an undertaking or situation, especially an expectation of financial or other gain. I have a stated position that the earth is round, but I don't have any vested interest in that.

All Powerful Cyclists....!! I'm in, or is it invite only - I'm open to it either way. All this pillorying of those who have done the research, have access and the tools to understand the data, and the elected responsibility.... and this group includes: The local council (comfortably relelected in the midst of all this last year The Mayor of London (again, comfortably relected in 2021) Transport for London Central Govt who initiated and funded much of this Mainstream newspaper correspondents Academics at mainstream universities - who central Govt appoint to review the LTNs And Malumbu It just makes me wonder, if we were all living 500 years ago what some of you would have made of the likes of Copernicus and Magellan.

There's a new empanada store at the GG end of Lordship Lane opened today - very tasty!!

Thanks for coming back to me on this Rockets - I appreciate it. But when you answer the question by saying "Because it is a strategic policy" I'm none the wiser... the question remains; why would an elected council pursue a strategic policy that produces the direct opposite effect of it's stated aim. And are you really trying to characterise LB Southwark , and by extension all Labour run councils in London, as 'far-left' ?
-
What I still don't really understand is what is the assumed vested interest of the council, to implement traffic reduction schemes that have the opposite effect?? Why would they want to do that?

School picket lines this Thursday

Do you have kids who attend any of these schools? If not, I wouldn't worry yourself about it :) -
Spartacus, That analogy sort of works, but less so if you give it much thought. In as much as many in the Labour Party (including me) were deeply uncomfortable about the antisemitism issue. It was a long, difficult and quite possibly ongoing struggle to remedy it but action was taken, and rightly or wrongly, JC has been removed from the PLP. At this specific rally, it does seem there were some people with some pretty extreme views on other topics present, mainly of a Libertarian bent and seeking to align those issues with the perceived anti-car agenda. If my position was solely about the efficacy of a specific scheme near me, and I saw the likes of Fox, P Corbyn, Kurten et al jumping on board, I would be really concerned and more so about the coordination of those characters than a couple of well-known pro-cycling media figures commenting on it. And Rockets, the use of quotation marks around the word journalist isn't really needed. They are actual journalists :)

That’s what Will Smith is for, no..? So, are you saying that Lozza Fox, David Kurten and members of patriotic alternative were not present at that event, or that you think that is entirely normal?

Overpriced... but also 'thrown up' and without architectural merit...? The developer, Berkeley Homes has a reputation for high quality developments, so unlikely they will be shoddy. Overpriced is a point of view really... unlesss they price them at a point where they don't sell. But I don't think they're in the habit of doing that.

They are both nice quiet residential streets, as far as I am aware. I would have said Henslowe Road is the nicer of the two. It's more or less 100% Victorian Terrace, whereas Darrell Road has some mid 20th century properties which aren't as attractive, plus the community centre. Also, Henslowe is nearer to the park.

It's replacing another chain... Foxtons!!

Hyprocrisy Fallacy "Tu quoque (/tjuːˈkwoʊkwi, tuːˈkwoʊkweɪ/; Latin Tū quoque, for "you also") is a discussion technique that intends to discredit the opponent's argument by attacking the opponent's own personal behavior and actions as being inconsistent with their argument, therefore accusing hypocrisy." It's a bit of a stretch to argue that anyone who is in favour of measures to reduce/discourage car use (which is most on this thread) or specifically that the measures under discussion are effective and not counter-productive (less agreement) - is therefore holding the position that ALL car use is out of the window with no exceptions.

London LTNs: Motor traffic reduced by 47%, study finds https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-64319027 Although I'm sure this will be dismissed as just part of the misinformation campaign by the Pro Cycling Lobby/LTN Cheerleaders/Anti-Growth Coalition/Whatever...
