After such a terrible summer I suddenly can't face the long winter ahead without some sunshine so I am trying to talk the OH into some winter sun.

Does anyone have any reccomendations of child friendly places to go with a then 2 1/2 yo and and 6 mo, I was thinking the Canaries are about as far as we would want to go, but am open to other ideas.

Has anyone any suggestions of quieter places to go in the Canaries away from the masses? And any accomodation reccomendations?

Thanks in advance

Hi

We lived in Tenerife for 5 years and I had both kids there. It is wonderful for kids. easy, safe, shallow beaches, loads of pedestrian areas, everyone very child friendly, great ice cream...

we still have our house there and rent it out for holiday lets. it's off the beaten track in a little village but only 20 mins to the beach.

i'll send you a pm with details...

Just in case other people are in need of some winter sun..... you can have a look at our place in Tenerife at

We had 5 very happy years there and never went near "the masses". I'm very happy to give tips on local things to do via PM.

Canela I may be onto you about your place, perhaps for oct/nov when our youngest is bigger and I can face the airport with all three of ours. How easy is it to get there from airport with three young children?

All our friends used to love tuscany or Amalfi Coast, but generally rave about Tenerife now they are kiddied-up.

In a hire car or taxi, the airport is only 15 minutes away from our place.

It's true - it is a really good place for families. I think because you're guaranteed sun, but not tooooo much, the beaches are really easy with shallow water, and for the more adventurous there are plenty of places to explore - pine forests, volcanoes, whale watching etc.

    • Signed, and I will share it elsewhere, thank you for posting this. It's got nearly 70,000 signatures at present, and apparently runs till February.
    • There’s a couple of Gov petitions going on in relation to fireworks at the moment but this one is for banning them entirely except organised displays if anyone wants to sign. This is the only sensible way forward in my view. No one should be able to let them off in gardens or anywhere like that, it’s crazy. I am surprised some of you have said it hasn’t been as bad this year. I live near DKH Saino and it’s been absolutely terrible my way for days. This petition gained about 20,000 just in the last day or so so clearly the appetite is there! https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/732559
    • I'd have thought they could use some of  their income from hiring out a large part of Brockwell Park in the summer (therefore, as I understand it, preventing local residents from using much of it) to put on a firework display there  in the autumn which might somewhat make up to those residents for the previous loss of use of the park. And also generate goodwill.
