Vegetable curry is easy, Lidl sell veg at a good price and they are fresh.

In fact anything vegetarian is cheap: soup,curry,chilli.....

Have you tried making pasties or pies?

We had veg rice (Lidl 49p) fried with onion, kale and gammon for lunch....that was really nice and took five minutes.

We also buy a jar of miso paste and make ramen really quickly and easily, adding different things.

If you want veggie and don?t mind Indian food, I recommend this fine lady.

She doesn?t use garlic or onion (or possibly other ingredients) due to her particular branch of Hinduism, but you can fix that yourself, as I do.

Get a tin of tuna in oil,

Pour the oil only in a pan, add cloves cinnamon & chopped onion, let them brown

Add some tinned tomatoes or Passata, add a few cloves of chopped garlic

Add seasoning to your taste, eg Garam masala, turmeric, cumin powder, curry powder, bit of black pepper or whatever takes your fancy

Let it simmer & you add the tuna, sweet corn if you like, whatever....

Let it cook up for about 15/20 mins

SORTED! Good ole' tuna curry!

You may like to make abit of rice to go with that it even wraps or chappatis

Bon appetite 😀

If you want really cheap, the security in M&S is really lax- you can easily nick whatever you please from there. The only partial exception is stuff like steaks and pricey booze, which have security tags attached- although normally its just some old woman standing by the exit door (security guard at the entrance) so you can tell her to get lost if the alarm goes off and stroll on out.

This guy is very good:

Nat's What I Reckon,. Australian comedian who turned his hand to cooking during lockdown and it went sort of viral over in Australia but he's got a decent following worldwide now. Warning - some of his videos are very sweary, not really one to have on if your kids are helping in the kitchen! He's not exactly Jamie Oliver!

However, the stuff he makes is very good and (generally) pretty healthy. Stuff like chilli con carne (veggie versions also available), you can just make in bulk, split it into freezer bags and freeze until needed.

Spoonfull of tahini added to a standard salad dressing makes a great vegan substitute for Ceasar dressing...

Leftover 'stale' bread for croutons... baked with olive oil and as much garlic as you can handle.

Iceberg lettuce...

Chicken leftovers or protein substitute

fried with a bit of garlic chillie etc...

Hey Presto! Ceasar salad!!!

What's not to like?

...Caesar rose to become one of the most powerful politicians in the Roman Republic through a string of military victories in the Gallic Wars, completed by 51 BC, which greatly extended Roman territory. During this time he both invaded Britain and built a bridge across the Rhine river. These achievements and the support of his veteran army threatened to eclipse the standing of Pompey, who had realigned himself with the Senate after the death of Crassus in 53 BC. With the Gallic Wars concluded, the Senate ordered Caesar to step down from his military command and return to Rome. Leaving his command in Gaul would mean losing his immunity to criminal prosecution by his enemies; knowing this, Caesar openly defied the Senate's authority by crossing the Rubicon and marching towards Rome at the head of an army...

Happening now...

Great way to teach the kids over dinner...

Kind Regards

    • For every person like OP that moans their doorbell was rung and there was a knock on the door, there's someone else moaning that they didn't hear the delivery drivers. If you've ever done delivery work you'll know that loads of people's bells don't work. The delivery drivers probably goes to a hundred doors a day: press bell, knock door, drop package, move on. If you don't like delivery drivers, insist on delivery by Royal Mail where the workers have wages and a union - or just stop ordering shit online that's artificially cheap. But most of us (me included) don't want that
    • If someone comes to my house and bangs my door and slams my gate, I'd speak to them about it nicely and ask if they would please not do that. And then subsequently less nicely if they keep doing it, ending in reporting them.  We don't slam doors at home and I don't put up with that either. I can see us moving to a culture where we bribe drivers to be nice by tipping them, but we shouldn't have to. It's not necessary - does not matter if they are on minimum wage or not, or if society means that delivery services are outsourced or whatever reason anyone would like to concoct.
    • We’ve got a gap on the roof of our shed that needs patching  don’t want to buy a huge roll so hoping someone has some leftover  happy to collect/reimburse
    • I never said I thought it was targeted or deliberate. There also has never been a “stand off” or confrontation, we’ve spoken to them in a friendly manner about it. Our experience is they don’t seem to care. That’s the frustrating thing for us, if someone politely raises a concern at least take a second to reflect. Treat others how you would want to be treated.  I don’t want them to lose their job, far from it. But considering it could cost me a days work to fix any damage, I’m within my right to try prevent it.
