susyp
yes totally. Just had to vent. It's really so unimportant in the general scheme of things. But - twice a day can get to you! Hubbie going tomorrow!susypx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27422-not-feeling-the-love-at-the-school-gates/#findComment-601697 Share on other sites
sillywoman
It got to me hugely. I had it with the second of my four & even now, 10 years on - there are women I will cross the road to avoid as they were so snooty and excluding during our time as a Mums in the same class together. Luckily I had three other children to prove to me that it was them, not me, otherwise I would have found it easy to start questioning what was wrong with me. I think the school gate feels just like being back at school - the 'in crowd',the potential for bitchiness etc.etc. susyp - I feel your pain. Look after yourself, & look around - I'll bet there's other Mums feeling the same way as you. Thank goodness for the holidays acomin'. :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27422-not-feeling-the-love-at-the-school-gates/#findComment-601705 Share on other sites

EDmummy
Having had the most wonderful experience first time round (and 2 of my very close NCT mums and kids at same school) I was shocked by this the second time. I can't honestly say I have ever been snobbish to any other parent in all the time my kids have been at school but as Sillywoman says, these are probably the same types who you might have encountered when you were at school. Pick your strategy - either try and join them by inviting their offspring for playdates or ignore bad behaviour and try and get past it. I sometimes wonder if some of these mothers are just as unsure as we are so cling to the small group of people they know. Another thing I noticed is the difference of friendliness between parents of boys and parents of girls ie., if you are both parents of girls it's slightly easier than if not. susyp
Ah thank you for the back up. It's fine really just a few mums. Luckily I was part of a lovely nursery class so I know it's not me. It's the PTA reps really and I think that happens. I went today and as I didn't go yesterday quite a few individual mums were extra friendly so it's just a case of ignoring the clique! Also I help in her class library day so am the only mum to know all the children individually and get on v well with her teachers so really need to think about that and ignore the silliness. Why people feel the need to be so unfriendly is beyond me!
