If there is a reason to think that your child will have a bad reaction to one part of the MMR, then you may want to consider giving them as singles. Reasons might include a history of family reactions to imms, allergy to any of the ingredients, bad reaction to a previous imms etc.

However, the downside of giving singles is that your child will then have to endure more individual needle sticks to get the full protection against each aspect that would be covered in the combined MMR.

Then again, hypothetically speaking, if a person is deadset against the combined jab but would consider singles, then giving singles is better than giving nothing from an imms point of view.

You can use Emla cream to reduce the pain of injections: http://www.emla.co.uk/ . It won't totally take away the pain, but it will reduce it. xx

I cried with literal anxiety when baby strawbs had his, I even made my partner go a do I as I just couldn't.. I thought he would come home a different baby ( yes I regularly slap myself about for being so dramatic haha).. Even though I was anxious about it I knew I couldn't take the risk of not having him vaccinated so we pressed on and rest assure he came home the same and didn't have a single ill effect from it x

    • A couple of updates to this terrible event:   1) In 2021, two cousins (one from Penge and one from Streatham) were convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison. The Southwark News has a summary of the awful day. https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/dulwich/donnell-rhule-dulwich-knife-murderer-cousins-sentenced-to-life-for-killing-18-year-old/    2) Last week, a female prison officer from Forest Hill was sentenced to eight months in prison for pursuing a relationship with one of the two murderers while at HMP Brixton. https://metro.co.uk/2025/12/15/probation-officer-admits-relationship-prisoner-hmp-belmarsh-25501445/ https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/38203627/probation-officer-jailed-illicit-relationship-murderer-secure-prison/
    • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.
    • She's responded, but I'm sure I read something in the Guardian consumer advice column. Might be some pointers if you're stuck
    • Two for Ratcliffe, the obvious one:   And one simply because it has the word  "You are nothing but blind fascists" in it.  Oh and a good song too.   Haven't listened to this for years.  Bloody good!
