I got a shed roof off this fella last week and I shall be very sad to see the business close. Go support it while you can because he's closing up after easter. Some stuff is reduced in price but more importantly cash in on the old boy's super wood knowledge while you can.

That bloke who runs it has been there most his working life, it was his Dad's business and I think his Dad (or Grandad) built the big shed/shelter from cut timber in the 1920's (so he told me anyways).

He's helped me for 15 years as I needed timber and advice while I renovated my house and is a kind and gentle helpful man with a wealth of knowledge - I shall be sad to see him go and will surely pay my respects before he departs.

He's had developers sniffing round for years obviously.

    • Fired Earth as a whole went into administration unfortunately - doesn't seem to have been a Dulwich problem specifically. Does anyone know how much the rent is for these Dulwich Village storefronts?
    • It is most likely gas, with what looks like a stop cock, and although the pipe may well have been isolated later from the supply you should get in a gas safe engineer to remove it. At worst it might need to be capped off beneath the floor boards. Don't interfere with it yourself.
    • Sorry, I know this isn't strictly an East Dulwich topic but as there are so many late-Victorian properties in the area I wondered if anyone has seen anything similar in their house and can advise. We have what looks like an old gas outlet on the back wall of our daughter's bedroom which we'd like to remove, but we weren't sure whether it's safe to do so. Do I just call a registered gas engineer to check it out? And is it definitely a gas outlet or might it be something else? It's at floor level so maybe electricity but it doesn't look like any electricity outlet I've ever seen! Has anyone had any experience of dealing with something similar?
