I've only been watching the LL the past few years, and only then when there hasn't been something that appeals on BBC4's music night. Just looks like your standard Gov bashing rather than Tory bashing per se (Trump has taken a lot of stick too), whoever's in power gets it in the neck, they're the ones making the decisions that affect our lives. If it feels one-sided, you have to remember that the Tories have been in power for well over 10 years now, before the LL even started...

Perhaps that's true.....unfort though its just not very funny (surely even if one is a 'tories are all that is evil' type of guy, one has to acknowledge that the enjoyment probably comes more from having your position reaffirmed, than anything that's truly comedic).....anyway...I'm not willing to watch for another 20 years though until Labour get thier act together to test the theory!

Although I suppose, given Trump was a regualr taregt, a good test will be how much they start taking Joe Biden down...of course the cynic in me says, not likely....

That's the only episode I saw - JC turned up in a Lords outfit all posh and done up - went into the changing room and came out dressed as the JC we all knew then - a little scruffy with brown shoes.

I actually thought that bit was funny.

on the minus column, I have seen much online leftie "it's like the third reich all over again" discourse. Which is painful and wrong

And yet. And yet

Unfunny TV shows carry on for years and years without any problem. Subjectivity and all that

But bad comedy shows also get cancelled all the time. And that's ok too

I literally don't care if the Daily Mash itself continues or if it's cancelled - I won't be watching

And yet and yet

Tim Davie arrived with a target of axing leftie comedy shows

Compared to the Thatcher years there does seem to be an unwillingness to tolerate anti-govt dissenting voices.

Away from bad comedy shows there is way, way less opposition to government compared to 80s. Wether it's TV or actual Political Party Opposition

Something is rotten somewhere. This government, more than many, needs examination. Mash Report didn't do a funny job (in my view - some do like it tho). And yet and yet

    • that is one cliche-ridden post headnun    it doesn’t mean a sack of beans in the real world  “old fashioned voters” meaning the ones dragging the country down this last 15 years just to laugh at the libs tears. Well done all  I’m not looking back at all. This is not a post Europe world in any sense. There are forces bigger than Europe but uk would be better aligning with Europe against, say, china, the pretending we live in some post Europe world.    and in case you hadn’t noticed, whoever you vote for, there are a LOT of ignorant racists feeling very happy with their resurgence - I would fight against them if I were you
    • No they aren't. You're coming across as a smug, superior liberal, and that's what old fashioned voters (labour, Cons and now Reform) hate. That 'the deplorables' 'they're all ignorant racists' line is what's driving people away from the traditional parties and towards Reform.  You're as guilty of looking back as Labour. This is a new, post-europe world and we all need to come to terms with that, make do with what we have, and move forward.
    • I have sympathy with any voter, anyone, who having witnessed the last 14 years and then Labour in the last year and wonders just how can things be this bad  unless a) they voted for brexit b) voted Tory after 2010 c) is thinking of voting reform  because anyone who thinks reform won’t make things a thousand times worse after voting for the previous?  It is they who are the problem.  They are the reason the country is in the doldrums with an embarrassingly-timid Labour government  Specifically Chris mason - a not very bright right leaning stooge - large part of why bbc news has become grok-level slop
    • In what way? Maybe it just felt more intelligent and considered coming directly after Question Time, which was a barely watchable bun fight.
