Can confirm this one is still there, I used it on Friday. It's about halfway between the Sydenham Hill/Kirkdale roundabout and the Woodhouse, on the left hand side if you're heading towards Crystal Palace.

Thanks Nigello for telling us about the new recycling bin for small electrical items in Dulwich Village. I looked at it yesterday & thought I should let others know that it's either full, or items which are too large have been forced into it. Either way, it's blocked at the moment. The bin has no facility for lightbulbs or batteries.

I passed it the other day and there is also a clothes recycling bin.

It?s outside number is 36. Hope this helps people find it.

Not clear what happens to the 'electrical items'

If they just slide down a shute I presume that get broken up for the precious metals etc in the circuit boards, a lot of the remainder will get ditched and into landfill . If the item works take it to a charity shop or give it away on here or free cycle etc.

I don't know about these, but the Southwark (Devon St. I think) dump site claims that they have taken 0% to landfill over a longish time period. They have an electrical item recycling part to their dump. So possibly the same.

There's a list of stuff they recycle there some of which they also repair. I'm slowly accumulating old computers but one is always instructed to take all personal stuff off them. Anyone know how this is done?

Nigello, the bin has been repeatedly vandalised, broken into and the contents strewn across the pavement. The door is now broken and the bin has to be taken for repairs. We are hoping that when it returns it can move to another site still in Dulwich but one that doesn't impact on the heritage location of the historic 17th century burial ground. Local councillors are involved and have given us a list of criteria (attached) so if anyone can think of any suitable locations please let us know. We definitely need the bin, it is used more than any other electrical recycling bin in Southwark.

    • Absolutely agree , the pool is in a disgusting state at the moment. I’ve also noticed how dirty it’s been lately, especially around the edges and in the changing rooms. It’s honestly at the point where it feels unhygienic, and I wouldn’t be surprised if people got sick from swimming in it. You’ve done the right thing by reporting it  hopefully if more of us raise concerns , they’ll take it seriously. Happy to add my voice to any formal complaint or petition if that helps. Thanks for speaking up — you’re definitely not alone!
    • Let's see if we can get a key so the notice board can actually be updated by someone who cares and has time (thank you Jellybeanz, if you want to do that, and if Sue can get a key), or we can have a group of key holders and content managers. It's not hard is it. There's not really any point having one if it doesn't have information
    • I  got a take away yesterday evening.  I stupidly ordered a side as well as  a bowl.  I have a hefty appetite but I had leftovers for breakfast and still some for lunch-and delicious.
    • I find that very confusing to read, because you have not separated what I said in my previous post from your reply in a way that makes it easy to see who said what. It also makes it very hard to respond to what you have said without confusing things even further! Is there any reason why you didn't just use the quote option as usual?
