How long to get a date for 2nd vaccine? *Update*

Recommended Posts

I had an appointment at TJ this morning for my 2nd Pfizer vaccine and arrived to be told they had run out. Rescheduled for next Sunday but if anyone has an appointment in the next couple of days, it might be worth checking before leaving home.

That's interesting as they said on Friday that the numbers would be there to match those already booked in for their second to ensure second jabs were catered for.

This was advised after my enquiry on how one goes about finding a place that offers the Pfizer as an alternate for 1st jab.

I don't think they had just run out as the receptionist asked if I'd received a text. The centre was extremely quiet with a few in the same boat as me and a few getting their Astrazeneca vaccine. for me, it's no big deal having to return next Sunday but I imagine for some who have mobility issues or need to organise childcare, it'd be good just to check. I'm hopeful they will have sufficient supplies in

I overheard on Friday that TJC will be getting Pfizer again from the 16th.

I wouldn't worry. I had to go to the Oval, Kennington to get my first jab on the 12th February and didn't get any info about second jab. Lo and behold I got a text recently to book my second jab and now have to go to the Oval this Wednesday. A two bus journey but as a carer I'm used to travelling on buses anyway so I can't wait.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just a head's up.

A friend was in the same queue as myself for the first jab. She has today had her second. I didn't have a date for the 2nd.

Basically, I rang my GP DMC Crystal Palace Road, and they assured me it wasn't the GP sending out the notification text. My friend had told me not to be fobbed off so I carried on asking, and lo and behold, the surgery sent me the booking link and I'm having it tomorrow!

does anyone know the effects of unavoidably delayed 2nd vaccination?

First injection AZ seems to have a long shelf life, getting 'better' over months - locally they are aiming for 11 weeks, although 12 is set as a national standard and some suggest longer would still be OK. I think the Pfizer effect doesn't get much better over time - after the initial 2-3 weeks - (but neither does the effect seem to dissipate that quickly). Take advice, if you can get it, from your GP - but don't over worry - I doubt if 2 or 3 weeks over your original date will make that much difference.

This thread has reassured me, I?m also waiting for my text for the second Jab to come through. Everyone I know booked their first and second at the same time. It will be 10 weeks next week so hopefully the text will come that week. The cancellations on pfeizer is a worry though. Fingers crossed it will get sorted but it?s hard to relax.
