I guess because there's only so much council resources to go round and council workers need time off too. You need to pay overtime to staff if they work weekends which may compromise the viability of the free centre. Plus some of these facilities (certainly at Peckham) are part staffed by volunteers and it's more difficult to get people to give up their time at weekends. That said I think some Children's Centres so run sessions on saturday mornings. I just feel so lucky that we're in an area that has so many free activities available!

Hi all,

I am the baby worker at the children's centre . It is harder for the centre to provide sessions on a weekend, but I'll pass on the comments and maybe weekend sessions could happen later in the year.

Enjoy the snow all.

Thanks Natalie, and sorry if I sounded snotty!

I just find sometimes that it's hard for working parents or partners to get involved in these initatives. I have taken my little man to story time at Peckham Library on weekends (run by volunteers) but that is all I seem to be able to do. Rhyme-time, baby-swim, One-O'clock club all seem to be during the week only.

Anyway, maybe it's because the demand isn't there! I don't know, but I would like to be involved, and I'm sure there are others, along with the week-working partners of families already involved who would like to join in too!?

Hi antantant,

You didn't come across snotty at all, you were just asking a very valid question :) I shall mention the suggestions at the next parent forum.

Thanks Fushia for the albrighton info.

Have a lovely snowy weekend all.

Thanks

Natalie

    • In deed.   An hour is optimistic. I'd always use the train/tube, so many options from the slowish Picadilly, quick Heathrow Express and Lizzy line in the middle. In the old days I'd go out to Feltham via Clapham Junction and either get a cab from there or the bus to avoid central London Alternatively 3 hours by bus only Or a couple of hours by bike, I have cycled there a few times including illegally going through the tunnel as it is so bike unfriendly.
