Getting exhausted doing research on this... We'd like to go away with our 20 month old before she hits 2 and we have to pay her airfare! This limits us to march/April and we went to go somewhere warm enough to swim... Ideally no more than 6-8 hours flight, for 7-10 days. Looking currently at Dubai & Canaries, but neither are filling us with much inspiration right now... Any tips or other ideas?? Thankyou!!
We took our then 20 month old to Sharm el Sheikh last year (Easter holiday) & had such an amazing time. She still talks about the swimming, beach etc. We stayed in a lovely hotel that had a really nice creche/babysitting services which she also loved, so we had a few afternoons to wander around the markets without toddler & pushchair. Highly recommend Egypt!
good luck with that. For my family we are struggling to find anything under ?4000!! But we are 5. Was def cheaper last year. Thompson, Thomas Cook, First Choice. Longwood all have Egypt. And Canaries although have heard weather not reliable in Canaries in March? And Turkey does not really open for beach holidays til mid April - if anyone can confirm that I'd be grateful!er

Canaries depends a lot on where you go regarding weather at this time of year. Islands like La Palma or La Gomera or North Tenerife will be coolish, but South Tenerife is guaranteed to be pleasant and warm - tho not really hot.

we lived there for years, and rent out our old house for holiday lets etc. you can see pics etc at

and happy to answer any questions. is completely off the beaten tourist track and a little gem.

We stayed at the Al Waha, Oman in March 2011. Amazing holiday with our 2.5 year old. Hotel had a kids club, soft play and fab pools. The food was delicious and as I was 32 weeks pregnant at the time I totally indulged. The weather was perfect, about 30 degrees.

just to update the thread (i'm missus fry :))

we have decided to book in here http://www.adrianhoteles.com/en/roca-nivaria/ a child friendly hotel in Tenerife, mainly because the flight is only 4.5 hours and because they accept younger children in the kids club - a lot of places we looked at would not accept under 4s...

jollymummy, that place looks really perfect though, will definitely take a look for our next trip!

thanks for all the tip offs, v helpful

    • I completely agree with you - and last night was really terrible where I am. Between midnight and 1am was the worst, where it genuinely felt like a war zone. I had to run out of my house to try and stop a grown man setting them off in open space right by our front doors. In response he went to throw a half lit one at me and then seemed to think better of it. I am so sad at how bad the situation has got here and how selfish people are. Fireworks are bad for the environment and for pets and wildlife, as well as just being unnecessary noise for people too. I have sent an email today to Helen Hayes, which I have done previously on this issue. Would advise anyone to write to your MP to do the same, and to ask them to engage with the debates scheduled for 19 Jan.
    • And they started long before midnight!
    • First mate - I wondered if I was imagining things at 4.45 this morning . Apparently not .
    • The Dutch are addicted to New Year fireworks and spent €130million this year on them. However,  sales to individuals will be banned as from this year and celebrations will be organised by local and city councils. I have Dutch friends and for them, this can’t come soon enough. However, at least there it’s concentrated  on one night. Here, it’s never ending, any excuse to make a noise is seized upon with gusto. In addition to the annual celebrations, add birthdays, weddings, engagements, divorces, christenings, BBQs, etc etc. I dare say you can funerals to that list as well. Yesterday it started mid-afternoon and just carried on until the early hours. In the past, I’ve been woken up at 4am. Anyyone who doesn’t like it can go hang and you can ignore completely the  effects on people’s animals and wildlife. Don’t hold your breath about anything being done here, however.
