I've lived in both, and I'd rather live in my present small terraced rabbit hutch house in ED than the four bedroomed much larger terraced rabbit hutch house I had in South Norwood.

Where exactly are these non-identikit houses in South Norwood?

No - you said the houses in East Dulwich were identikit, with the clear implication that the houses in South Norwood weren't.

Or have I misunderstood you?

Are the streets of terraced houses in South Norwood somehow different to the streets of terraced houses in East Dulwich? And all over South East London for that matter!

The streets of terraced houses in East Dulwich are about the same size as those in South Norwood, but smaller than other areas in south London such as Sydenham, Brixton, Peckham, and Camberwell.

In light of all comments, I did another recce (my initial recce centred around/and off White Horse Lane).

Wolfington Road is in West Norwood ? I didn?t check this out?

First, I went to South Norwood Lakes ? wow, I?m amazed (bit of a hidden gem). Auckland and Lancaster road is nice but it?s seems that it is a through road. There were some large, I think Georgian, terraces not far from the park/lake too. I must admit this area is quite nice. It has a nice feeling (a feeling that I had when I first moved to ED).

Secondly, I checked out Norwood Junction, I stumbled across a lovely coffee shop (which right there (and there only) reminds me of ED).

Thirdly, I went to the South side in South Norwood, (i.e. along Portland Rd). There are surprisingly a hell of a lot of Victorian terraces off the Portland road (I need to read some history of this area). Top end of Portland road is grotty but the lower end is nice. This area has a different feel than the area by the park/lake (maybe it?s the feel that peeps were describing above). Compared to ED it?s real/edgy (definitely different to ED). BUT another major surprise, there?s a Country Park! I couldn?t believe it (still shocked). This makes me love London! Can?t believe things like this are tucked away in a city like London, I love it. I ventured towards Woodside (as someone suggested), which looks a bit villagey ? it seem too quiet and nothing going on.

Lastly, I checked out Addiscombe which I prefer much more than Woodside but the only thing is that most of the houses are from the 1930s (I like my Victoria and George thank you.) This reminds me of ED but about 5 years behind.

In all, the housing stock in South Norwood is very much like ED, but I definitely like the area near the lakes. SO THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO SUGGESTED THE LAKE AREA. And I think I understand the comments about it being grotty etc

Just found out that Croydon Council intend to purchase private houses in Upper and South Norwood to house their homeless people. I can only see this as a bad thing. Is there any other way to see it?

If I was homeless, I would see this as a very good thing.

If I thought it was a bad thing to be homeless, I would see this as a very good thing.

If I was a NIMBY, I would be shouting from the rooftops because homeless people were likely to affect the value of my house or make it slightly more difficult for me to buy one.

FFS.

ETA: Let's hope your circumstances don't suddenly change and you find yourself homeless. Maybe your view might change then. Or maybe it won't, and you will prefer to sleep on the freezing cold streets because you think it is wrong that kind people might offer you the chance of a home.
