In what can best be described as, a cricket match in Wandsworth, The Crystal Palace Tavern Cricket Team* will meet the King?s Road Cricket and Social Club this Sunday.

The event has attracted an unexpectedly high level of enthusiasm with literally some people having read a thread about it on the East Dulwich Forum. Still some others have pretended to listen during East Enders while their significant others have made explanations for their imminent absence from domestic duties this Sunday.

The game will feature such highlights as players attempting to throw (without actually throwing) a cricket ball from one end of a pitch to another. There is also the promise of such scintillating exchanges as, ?Out!?

?It never was!?

?Yes it was.?

?No it wasn?t?

?Yes it bloody was.?

?It?s always the same with you isn?t it? Fucking by the book jobsworth so-n-so?

?Up yours.?

and, ?ahh. Can I have another go please??

?What time should we meet at the station?? said Mr Pears MacMonkey, secretary of the CPT meeting at stations working sub-committee for the Camberwell area.

Leaving the question on all of our lips, what time? What time indeed?

*Also but not exclusively known as, The East Dulwich Forum Cricket Team and open but not restricted to anyone who has ever had a drink in a pub or has heard of or knows someone who has heard of East Dulwich and or the game of cricket, although special dispensation has had to be applied for to allow players from Sydenham.

You're doing the SLP's job again Brendan

In all fairness the sydenhamite practically lives in the CPT.

Right, any chances of spouses and pals hoiking cool boxes of beer, half time oranges and pie? (I'll be doing the first)

My other half will be coming and we will be taking the car + 1x cooler box of beer. Unfortunately Nat is on call so the boot of the car is full of her equipment but we should be able to give 2 people a lift. So let me know if anyone wants a lift. Leaving at about 10:20am.

Cool. You?ll have to arm-wrestle Natalie for it though, I?m driving. (Well there at least) I?d watch out if I were you, she?s freakishly strong for a girl.

Space for 1 more folks, unless your other half is also coming Keef.

What are we doing for tea? Are we all just going to bring beer and pork pies etc.

?Stuff you guys I?m not playing.? ? Says vocal CPT supporter and East Dulwich institution Lord Jahseph Lush

Meanwhile CPT manager Sir Manky O?Piers is fined 50% of his match fee for gratuitous use of the word hoiking.

And this just in: ED forumite earns universal scorn for pushing the boundaries of acceptable silliness.

Good news, Dems' plans have changed, and he will be joining us (so Brendan I'll probably go along with him in his car).

He also said (with some bullying from me) that he would be happy to play the captain's role on the field, unless anyone else particularly wants it... If someone does, it's their's, but if not, Dems has experience of leading / organising teams.

Don't worry about tea guys - we'll provide all the food and squash. Think we'll have to charge ?5 match fee each to cover the cost of hiring the ground etc.

If you want tins bring some though.

Just looked at the weather - it's going to be dry. Might be a bit nippy on the sidelines though so bring a jumper.

I would hasten to add that there are usually last minute drop outs, and anyone who was thinking of coming, do do come along despite the apparent full-strength team above. Plus I'll no doubt be hobbling at some point, so a substitution could be on the cards.
