citizenED
To confirm it's almighty power, the catholic church have shifted St Patrick's day to today - see here Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2833-happy-st-patricks-day-today/ Share on other sites

????
I loathe stPatrick's day.....at leat those awful Oirish pubs keep the vast majority of the plastic shamrok brigade out of the decent pubs, although, sadly, The Hermits Cave always sullies itself with some sort of 'do' or 'hooley' in the correct vernacular I believe Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2833-happy-st-patricks-day-today/#findComment-87462 Share on other sites
dulwichmum
How very dare you ????, I have a good mind to sit on your chest (I am a 6ft retired brickie from Penge afterall) while forcing you to wear headphones playing Daniel O'Donnell. Brendan
Well I for one am already halfway through my 4th pint of Guinness and the neighbours have just said that they are going to call the plod to get my asbo reinstated if I don?t stop singing Fields of Athenry at the top of my voice. Actually Quids, you don?t live next door to me do you? ????
Brendan I did have a very pleasant irish neighbour when I lived in another SE22 road but he was prone to occasional coming home at 3.30 am absolutely paralytic and putting on those awful irish folk songs at full volume...was that you? Keef
I have to admit Paddy's day does my head in a bit. It was fun when I was a student in Liverpool (the Irish dock), but now it just annoys me how everyone goes mad for it, and yet noone raises a pint on April 23rd (or is it 21st? see I know without thinking what 17th March is). Basically it's just Guinness Day. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2833-happy-st-patricks-day-today/#findComment-87486 Share on other sites
Brendan
No not me quids. I do have a tendency to come home pissd and put on folk music but I am not Irish. Oh go on keef. When I was a student (specifically a student rugby player) then any excuse for a skinful of Guinness was much appreciated, particularly at the end of the season as we were winding down. Was pointed out by many that I'm not Irish, and that now seems to be very valid in a way that it just wasn't back then...But must argue a little bit: some people do raise a pint on 23rd April... People who drive white vans and look like bulldogs raising pints of beater, but still people raising pints ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2833-happy-st-patricks-day-today/#findComment-87539 Share on other sites

HonaloochieB
"While religious celebrations honoring St. Patrick are affected, religious and secular authorities stressed this would not change secular festivities. The St. Patrick's Festival Committee in Dublin confirmed that next year's parade would be March 17 as usual. In addition, Monday, March 17, will remain an official day off of work in Ireland."Imagine my relief that the Irish bishops aren't going to stop me going on the piss on Monday.I loft a pint in your general direction bishes. Excuse me all to to f@ck and beyond but since when was St Pat's day anythng to do with the 'student' experience? It doesn't mean as much to you now? Then away and find some other patron saint to leech off. May I suggest St Patrick Kielty the patron of the unfunny. As for not celebrating St George's day, make it a bank holiday if it means that much, or shut up about it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2833-happy-st-patricks-day-today/#findComment-87551 Share on other sites
