I was talking to another mum about how much their son plays games and they were saying they never let their child use their phone or tablet to play games, but I do... is that normal, how much screen time should I let my son have? I'm so busy and if he enjoys it I think it's okay but now I'm worried that I'm not doing what's best for them!

Help!!

Pretty liberal with screen time this end. Probably too liberal at times, especially during lockdown. I?m not to worried about it. We spend lots of time as a family away from screens, children are active, do fine at school etc so I don?t see an issue. I do monitor what they see/do on their though and we do have some rules in place like no screens before school, no screens before homework/reading is done and then off screens at 7.30 to wind down for the night. Not really any restrictions during weekend/school free days.

as people say - do what works for you.

in our household we have never felt the need to have TV or device time Mon-Thursdays for both children as they are so busy with other activities, school work, dinner, bath etc..

fridays, sat and sundays its all dependent on their behaviour, activities, etc...

I'm very liberal about screen time amount, as long as the kids keep to every other bit of their routine and responsibilities. Eg--after school/after school sport, it's snack then homework then bath and then screen time until dinner, then after dinner if they want until bedtime.

On weekends we keep relatively active, but just like adults who want to do what we like with our free time, I try to make sure my kids can do the same. If that means playing football in garden or playing on their tablet, then so be it.

If it helps, I use the app called Kidslox which helps me limit on those days where it seems like they're on too much. It basically freezes the tablet so it cannot be used, if I flip the 'switch' on the app so to speak.

Bit uncalled for Buxton...you have no idea what the mum in question is busy with. Perhaps trying to work during home schooling? Caring for other children/relatives? Perhaps she is on her own with no partner or family support. You don?t know what anyone is going through behind the scenes so maybe take off hour judgey pants next time? no offence

    • Good Afternoon, I'm so sorry to hear Indigo hasn't returned home. Have you had any sightings yet, & is she microchipped? Our team carry scanners on our daily routes & will be keeping a look out for her. In the meantime, notify your street & surrounding area (many have Whatsapp groups following the pandemic) Dox will print & deliver 50 free missing posters https://www.doxdirect.com/help/free-missing-pet-posters/ & Do try calling out for her at dusk & dawn when street & foot traffic is at its lowest. Often times, when it comes to unusual disappearances, it's neighbouring renovations, general construction work or fireworks that can spook our little lions into hiding... even in unfamiliar places. I hope you are reunited with Indigo soon. Twb x
    • So, the pool is still not open and members are still being charged for the use of it! On complaining again, this is what I have received:   "Thank you for your reply. I am sorry to hear how strongly you feel about this situation and I completely understand how disappointing the ongoing pool closure has been, particularly as swimming was one of your main reasons for joining.   I appreciate you sharing what you were told at the point of sign-up. While we aim for all information to be consistent, I recognise that this has not always been the case, and I apologise if this has caused confusion or led to expectations that differ from the eligibility criteria we have since communicated.   To clarify, the eligibility criteria for adjustments were introduced to ensure we treat all members fairly and consistently, based on usage across all Southwark sites. I do recognise your concern that this information did not feel as visible as it should have been, and I will ensure this feedback is passed on so our communication is clearer going forward.   I truly regret the disruption the closure has caused and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve it. Thank you again for taking the time to outline your concerns.   Kind regards, Move Southwark Team Dulwich Leisure Centre"

    • That surely would only be legitimate if you could, and did, parlay your expenditure with them to another of their venues. Otherwise I don't think it would stand up in court. They failed to provide a service paid for. When they would have been in a position to do do on reopening.
