I am wondering if anyone knows the exact plans for increasing the ED Charter year 7 intake. We would be slightly outside the catchment if we were applying this year. But I understand there are plans to increase intake from 180 to 240. The website says 210 from September 2022. Would they then extend to 240 in 2023 or is that still to be decided? All intel welcome! Thank you
The demand for secondary places is going to decrease over the next few years, some primaries are starting to be undersubscribed, so even without the expansion the catchment will increase. It is the last couple of year and the next year where the extra places would have been most needed and the original plan was to provide for these extraordinary bulge years. Unfortunately the delays meant that the catchment to East Dulwich has been, and is, minuscule. It will get bigger soon even without the extra places.

There are several hundred primary school places where the nearest secondary school is Charter ED. I believe Charter ED is 93% over subscribed. So the catchment isn?t expanding anytime soon , in fact, realistically, ever. There may be more places added to the intake imminently but the sibling places will increasingly kick in to counteract that.

It?s true that by year 6 primary classes are not full due to people moving away or moving their kids to private school in years 4/5/6, but the number of charter ED places will still be far far less than the number of children applying. Year 6 classes at primary schools have never been full, it?s not a new development.

I wish this was the case. I think primary schools are getting unsubscribed in Dulwich as there are 3 new primary schools that opened in the last few years: The Belham, Harris Primary School, Judith Kerr. Not sure if there are more. I think there are more primary school places around Dulwich for the number of secondary school places. I think we are still short of state secondary school places sadly.

I'm starting to see Southwark schools advertising nursery and reception places. Lyndhurst and Dog Kennel Hill are advertising they have nursery places left. 11 years ago, when my son was born, you had to fight to the death for a nursery place at either place.
Yup, people who have moved into the area have stayed in the area. Therefore, fewer homes are coming on the market and so there are fewer younger families. Several schools in this area are no longer able to fill their reception places and at some point, I think we will see some schools close or have their intake reduced - eg from two form to one form intake. This makes expanding secondary schools less attractive in the long-term.

    • I was amazed to see a young nuthatch crawling headfirst down a the trunk of a tree in my garden to bully the great tits and blue tits off the bird feeders yesterday.  Didn't expect to see one this far from the woods.

    • It didn't occur to me to ask. No idea if dieticians are employed within the NHS. It is just one line of enquiry among others. The GP mentioned it, not me.
    • I thought the most they sell in terms of hot food at londis is like pastries and sausage rolls and for hot drinks its like costa coffee but its always a convenience store. Doesn’t look too bad in my opinion considering that shop has been closed down ever since i moved here
