Tate modern under 5s zone

Has anyone tried it? Worth a trip - or not so much?

Its a small area but quirky, fun and interesting -- my wee ones have always loved it from ages of 2-4 years.

I don't think it's worth a trip by itself, but good to go to if you're going there anyway.

My two year old didn't think much of the under 5 zone but absolutely loved turbine hall, and just generally enjoyed walking around tate modern. The new blackfriars station is impressive too if your child is a train lover. It is always a great trip when we go.

Agree with oimissus, we always go if we're there but it's small and doesn't take long to do everything.

My v v active 2.5 yo loves the slide in the interactive bit and we spent a good half an hour there the other weekend, plus time spent watching video installations on the same floor, we then did LOTS of crazy running up and down in the turbine hall and they had interactive kids activities going on there too (something to do with cassettes and players, and a very simple but effective activity allowing children to make dens which was a big hit). We then had lunch in nearby Leon which was perfectly toddler friendly and reasonably priced. We went on a Sunday morning and virtually parked outside for free, it was a great and very easy trip!

Oh yes. mine love it. We often go just for the slide, and they can spend a good part of the morning there.

Noticed this morning that the Turbine Hall entrance was closed off. Not sure if it was just as it was before opening time but sure I haven't noticed it other days. But may be worth checking if you're heading up that way as there may be something going on.

It might be hit or miss. Ours loved the stairs, but not the slide so much or any of the other purpose made attractions/equipment. It is a bit small, so either they will get tired of the area and wander into the other galleries or love it and never want to leave. The scones are great in the cafe!

Thanks, chums. We had a great trip yesterday. Turbine hall closed for concert, but still good fun. A grand day out! : )

The cafe in Tate Modern also has a great deal where every grown up lunch gets a free kids lunch (pasta, fish fingers and chips, mini hamburgers etc) Actually makes for a reasonable cheap day out!
