Safe Crystal Palace pools!

17 months on as the 2 main pools remain closed at Crystal Palace National sport centre. There are no immediate plans to do the necessary work to reopen these.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the context of the current closure?

The cynics would suggest it?s driven by the fact the operator makes more money with it closed!

It?s probably not as simple as that. Multiple ownership (Southwark, Lambeth, Bromley & Croydon?) mean there has consistently been a lack of consensus on the future of the site and it?s ongoing funding. There are proposals to sell off part (of the park) for housing.

It?s a desperate shame, whether you like the architecture or not the entire centre is very well used from the lowliest amateur seeking to improve their fitness right up to potential national and international athletes - a positive illustration of ?sport for all?

A desporate shame the facility didn?t receive any of the 2012 games funding.
