Locked out of Facebook...help!? (Sorted out now)

Recommended Posts

Was uploading some party photos onto FB and all of a sudden the following message came up:

For security reasons your account is temporarily locked

Unfortunately, your computer may be infected with a virus.

Don't worry. We'll help you find and remove any infected files right away.

Has anyone on here had this issue? Line 3 sounds a bit suspicious to me as I've never experienced FB to be this co-operative.

I think you're right about line 3: very likely an interloper that wants to lure you into its lair. If it won't let you shut down that window/tab, or the whole browser, you could try doing so via Task Manager. If your browser is configured so as to reload whatever windows you had up on last use, and you can't amend that configuration, try killing each individual tab as soon as it appears. That's worked for me previously. Doing any restart when not connected to the net might make things easier.
Thank you SO much for coming back, ianr. Hubby cleared down browser cache/history and then got me to retry. He then got me to log on via another computer: same problem. He then got me to go back into FB by typing "Facebook.com" and decided to risk pressing the CONTINUE button following FB's message. This screen asked me to run antivirus scanning software if using windows or apple and to confirm this had been done. I didn't run the AV software as the problem was the same on both computers neither of which run windows or apple operating systems (I use Linux). Hey presto, I am now back in. However, once again - thank you.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
    • That was one that the BBC seem to have lost track of.  But they do still have quite a few. These are some in their 60s archive. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0028zp6
