ulez zone ??

we live in london and drive to kent do we have to pay to get back in to london with this new ulex - lex zone ??? any one know

If you live within the North or South Circulars and drive you will pay a daily charge of ?12.50, if your car is Diesel registered before September 2015 (September 2014 for a few models). Older petrol cars are free if they were registered from 2006 although some older than this may be OK.

Google ULEZ extension and it will tell you all, including checking your number plate if you are unsure if you pay or not.

I'd your car isn't compliant, You pay a daily charge for going out and if your return is on a different day you then incur a daily charge again on return

In deed, you can travel in and out of the congestion charge zone as much as you like on one day, and just pay the one charge. Some with non-compliant cars may to decide to combine journeys and do it on a limited number of days.

I noticed over the weekend that road signs have been amended to show ULEZ entry points.

Not convinced it's clear to outside London drivers as its a white circle with a black border and ULEZ in black. Didn't really jump out as to what it is in my opinion.

Look on the large directional road signs where the black and white circle "ULEZ" has been added.

It seems to be an add on to the existing large signs rather than a new sign cluttering the drivers vision.

If you live inside the zone what's to stop you driving around? How will vehicle use be monitored? I don't see gazillions of cameras being installed

You can drive around as much as you like but you will be charged if your car is not ULEZ compliant. The cameras are installed within the zone and at the boundaries. If you haven't seen them then you just haven't noticed them.

Unless they put a camera in every street I cannot see how it will work. 750 extra cameras can't cover the whole of London

Look for a camera at every road junction with the south circular. They are black and look a bit like a pair of binoculars.Quute discreet.

Register for auto-pay. It's ?10 to register a car but you save ?2.50 for each charge and then you can at least be sure you won't be caught out and receive a big fine

I understand the boundaries, but if you drive from Melbourne grove to say north cross rd are you going to cross a camera?

You should not cross a fixed camera but there will be spot checks apparently - using the Southwark cars with a camera on a pole for example.

It won't take long for crafty motorists to figure out camera free routes within the zone

High risk strategy. If you think you've found a crafty route and you use it several times and you don't spot the one camera on that route you could end up with a stack of fines that arrive all at once two weeks later.

Congestion Charge cameras are at the boundaries and in the zone so if you move around, even if you don't cross a boundary, you will likely be caught on camera. ULEZ will be the same

If you do it all in one day then you pay one days ULEZ, it's not a case of paying to come back in but paying if you are seen on camera

Therefore leaving the boundary will trigger a charge, and entering again later in the day will be covered by the same charge

What you will have to do is drive your car to a one way street that either leaves or enters the ULEZ zone, then push it. Like pushing a powered two wheeler it is no longer a car but a pedestrian so you wont be charged.
