We're looking for a great, considerate building company with good attention to detail. Have you had a kitchen, bathroom refit that you were really pleased with? After several bad experiences this is filling me with fear so your recommendations will be gratefully received. NO responses from tradesmen please. Only genuine good experiences please. I would ideally like to see work done. Thanks.
Hello, over the years I have used local builders/workmen to refurbish kitchen and bathroom. Jobs completed to a somewhat satisfactory standard but lacked a certain something. Our kitchen was last refitted about 5 years ago by now defunked Mobens. We negotiated hard for hours and eventually got a great product for a great price. In future I will stick to the larger company's as all work was carried out efficiantly to a high standard by qualified people. But I must stress you need to be firm and negotiate the price. The difference ran into the thousands not hundreds. I hope this has been helpful.

Definitely contact raf on 07825663236' he is amazing!

Did our kitchen from scratch (derelict to fully finished beautiful)

He is reliable, trustworthy and does the best job. I had some terrible experiences before we hired raf... Which really made me lose confidence in this kind of thing. Whenever we get anything done like this we call him now. Call raf now!

I can recommend Daniel Renovations Ltd who finished work on our house after we'd been particularly badly stung by a local builder recommended via EDF. It probably sounds over the top, but Daniel and his team completely restored our faith in builders as we'd seriously lost trust and found it hard to select another builder.

Happy for you to pm me for further details or if you want to see the work.

Whoever you pick in the end I'd recommend going with a larger company and someone who's FMB registered.

Hi, another recommendation for raf and his team. We had extensive renovations, including kitchen, bathrooms and lots of structural work - very happy for you to see what they dneighboursid. really excellent attention to detail, fair price and thoroughly decent guys (very respectful of of our family and our neighbours). Pm me for more details.

All the best

Hi I had a complete Bathroom and Kitchen renovation undertaken by Mc Govern Carpentry and Design, in my buy to let property. They came in on budget and gave me great advice throughout the whole project. The team work to an exceptional standard, and I have the Mc Govern team earmarked for my next project.

Mc Govern Carpentry are also one of the main Sponsors of the Dulwich Physic Garden at Dulwich Hospital.

Good Luck

Hi ED Mummy,

I recommend Kate and her team at 102 Interiors. www.102interiors.co.uk

Kate has just the kind of common sense that you are after to design a kitchen/bathroom. She is a Mum of 4 and completely understands the requirements needed to run a family home.

She has a team of buliders that work for her and they are extremely meticulous, friendly and hard working.

I know Kate personally as her children go to school with mine. But she has also done some work for me in my home.

When we eventually get round to designing a new kitchen she will be the only one I call.

I highly recommend having a chat with her to discuss what you're planning as she has some fantastic ideas.

Hi Sue, ended up putting an ad on the Federation of Master Builders website. Two have come to quote so far but nothing in writing although I've seen their work and have been impressed. Quite a slow process. I was quite interested in getting Raf (detailed above) over but as we have a fair bit of work and need it done in a tight timescale was a little unsure whether he might have the capacity (according again to the comment above). Might still get him to pop over.
I can recommend the builders that Kate102 uses. We had an enormous amount of work done - underpinning the back of a large house, structural strapping throughout, new kitchen and bathroom, replastering throughout, minor reconfiguration of some rooms, usual plumbing and electrics, some replacement of cornicing, total redecoration (this is not an exhaustive list). I shudder to remember it all but John was excellent. Knows what he's doing, well organised, pleasant, trustworthy and v calm. He is approved by one of the fussier house insurance companies but is not expensive. His company is called Braidwood and they are based in West Wickham although much of his work is in and around Dulwich. I am more than happy for you to come and have a look at the work and answer any questions if you like. It's such a lottery finding a good builder, I am always happy to recommend good ones when I find them. You can contact John on 07970 490918 and please feel free to pm me if I can help further.

    • Another strong recommendation from me from Peckham Rye area. Paul sent Damian to sort out our tripping sockets. We’d had another electrician come and try to fix it a couple of weeks earlier who was not good, but Damian was extremely thorough and methodical in diagnosing the issue and fixing it. He tested every socket to make sure the problem was sorted. He arrived bang on time and talked me through exactly what he was finding and how the problem had likely come about as he went. Very polite, friendly and excellent value for money. Wouldn’t hesitate to call them again if we need an electrician. Great team,  great service! • So have you never been in a house where the gas hob was turned on but not ignited?  You get a smell of gas,  You do not get an explosion when you light the flame.   You have to have a very high concentration of methane (over 4.4%)  for this to happen, the smell of the gas would be obvious half way down the street.  They add mercaptans to natural gas to give it that smell at very low concentrations.   Gas explosions happen once in a blue moon, in places like residential homes in the basements where, if unchecked, a leak can get up to explosive concentrations.   Back to my original comment about Bunsen burners.  You'd got 30 kids in a classroom but no explosions.   The establishment of Corgi (now Gas Safe) and the compulsory annual testing of boilers and cookers was mainly due to the relatively high number of deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty appliances and blocked flues in rented properties. I don't expect the OP to test it themselves, I would, but that his my decision.  But you may get Natural Grid to do this free of charge if you ask nicely. I thought the video was hilarious.  The guy shouts don't do this yourself, call in help.

    • Or maybe let @malumbu come round and test it for you, thus potentially getting two birds with one stone 🤣
