I hear you, and lucky you to have granny, but childminders and nanny shares are really good for socialising, they will take to playgroups and they will interact with other charges, nanny shares esp like this age as so many little ones come to them at 1 and go to nursery at 3-4 so they know they will get 2 years of conistent care/ work.
I started to believe all this nursery waiting lists are just a trick to may themselves more desirable; the other issue is that people always put their name down in at least 3 nurseries which increase the waiting lists; in reality you just need one to offer you a place. With a bit of chasing I have always been offered places in the nurseries I wanted for my two children
Silly woman- grannies are there to love cherish and spoil :) I don't expect her to in her age go to playgroups!! I am grateful enough she will be looking after my daughter - as if that and the cooking/ cleaning/ shopping/ picking up and dropping to nursery etc isn't enough for her!!! I'm sure she will but the fact that I have gotten a nursery space at mother goose is amazing news!!

That's interesting Uzma, that you see playgroups as an awful burden. I think it's the one thing that Baby Belle's granny loves the most - she gets to meet and chat with other people and she gets to see Baby Belle enjoying different activities. My funniest experience was when she took him to a library group and he was asleep throughout - she stayed and said she "enjoyed the songs immensely!"

Is Uzma a Muslim name? Forgive my ignorance ..There is actually a Muslim women only playgroup at Peckham Rye one o'clock club on a Thursday.

But I agree it's brilliant you've got a nursery place.

Oh Uzma - I didn't see your post but I truly hope you didn't think I was being in any way critical. I really wasn't. It rang a bell with me simply because actually sometimes I have found playground quite hard work myself and have been amused / surprised at how granny loves them. All grannies are different but there are some who absolutely relish the experience of mixing with other mums/ childminders/ grannies

Twenty pounds for gumboots (when we joined eighteen months ago) and the one o'clock club session I mentioned is 10 - 12 on a Thursday with other sessions, some open access some restricted on other days.

    • It’s good we are having this discussion. My point of view is that we are definitely witnessing an attempt at genocide in Palestine, the right wing of the Israeli government have some awful views, some of the language representing the worse of humanity.  Jewishness should not be conflated with Israel or Zionism, I see that has been the case for some of the comments in this thread. Conflating the actions of a Zionist Israeli Government with Jewish people is actually considered antisemitism and is a very dangerous way of thinking, leading to Jewish people in the UK feeling unsafe.    Support peace and march today, I have been many times and met some lovely people.  It’s a long read, but if any of you are interested in how early Israeli settlers from Europe viewed Arab-Jews and the consequences do have a read.  https://www.vox.com/world-politics/24122304/israel-hamas-war-gaza-palestine-arab-jews-mizrahi-solidarity
    • Are they entering the test in 2026 and going to university in 2027?
    • Hello everyone! My daughter is planning to apply to Cambridge for Mathematics for the 2026 entry, and as a parent, I want to make sure she has the best possible support during this process. We've been researching different resources and came across several tutoring services that offer help with personal statements, STEP preparation, and interview practice. For example, we found these websites: Company 1 Company 2 Company 2 Has anyone here (students or parents) had experience with tutors or mentors like these for Cambridge Maths applications? Did you find them genuinely helpful for STEP and interviews, or is self-preparation with past papers and school support sufficient? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and whether this kind of investment is worthwhile! Many thanks in advance!
