Thieves leaving markers. Bit of a PSA - keep an eye out for markers being put in front of your home, & if you?re away ask your neighbour to keep an eye. For example, I?ve just arrived home to find a food waste bin moved from its normal spot & placed in front of our door. If it doesn?t get moved tonight then thieves will assume nobody?s at home & target the place. Don?t let these bastards ruin your holiday time

If you are away and your bins are being left out, ask a neighbour to put them back inside your front yard, etc. That way you will be doing something to deter those who are marking houses for potential burglary but also keeping the footpaths clear for those who are less able to see or negotiate them. (And fit deadlock/alarm!)

I just googled it.

Apparently it's "Public Service Announcement".

That's interesting about the doorbells, because quite a few times in the early hours I've thought I heard the door bell and gone down and there was no one there.

I always thought it was some kind of annoying auditory hallucination which unnecessarily woke me up 🙄

Mine is an old fashioned wind-up one.

There's no way it could ring spontaneously, unless I've got a poltergeist (I haven't 🤣)

This thread made me think... Cos about 7 yrs ago I was burgled in Sydenham.. 1st floor flat.

Tonight I just got home... And my gas metre box flap was open.... I'm sure it wasn't open yesterday.

(I'm also aware it's very windy but surely it wouldn't open due to wind).

Is anyone else aware of metre reader flaps being a signal to would be burglars?

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
    • Thought others may be interested to help a local community centre help others.    My bank account offers roundup and it’s been growing all year. As well as treating myself or putting it towards a train ticket to see my family I’ve made a donation to the Albrighton. They can use donations at any time but I hope my donation will go towards the Christmas hampers.    Can you support them so they can provide Christmas hampers?   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/albrightoncommunityfridge?utm_id=1&utm_term=M22JKQb6W   A donation of £50 will pay for a hamper to feed a family over this Christmas period. A donation of £30 will pay for a hamper to feed someone living on their own over the Christmas period.
    • I've never got Christmas pudding. The only times I've managed to make it vaguely acceptable to people is thus: Buy a really tiny one when it's remaindered in Tesco's. They confound carbon dating, so the yellow labelled stuff at 75% off on Boxing Day will keep you going for years. Chop it up and soak it in Stones Ginger Wine and left over Scotch. Mix it in with a decent vanilla ice cream. It's like a festive Rum 'n' Raisin. Or: Stick a couple in a demijohn of Aldi vodka and serve it to guests, accompanied by 'The Party's Over' by Johnny Mathis when people simply won't leave your flat.
    • Not miserable at all! I feel the same and also want to complain to the council but not sure who or where best to aim it at? I have flagged it with our local MP and one Southwark councillor previously but only verbally when discussing other things and didn’t get anywhere other than them agreeing it was very frustrating etc. but would love to do something on paper. I think they’ve been pretty much every night for the last couple of weeks and my cat is hating it! As am I !
