Hello there,

I was wondering whether any one could recommend a Yorkshire holiday cottage, or a company which they have used to book similar holidays in UK through.

In-laws live in Scotland. Cousins in Lincoln. Lovely friends have moved to Durham, and in order that we get to see everyone, I thought we could base ourselves in Yorkshire and the in-laws could come and join us for a weekend, we could visit our friends in Durham, and take a trip into York for the day. Cousins could also come and visit.

Any suggestions would be a good start, as I have no idea.

Don't know of any cottage companies per se but we go to the Dales in North Yorkshire all the time as my husband's family live in Skipton. I can highly recommend the villages round there....in the beautiful dales - like Grassington, Gargrave, Threshfield, Linton etc...really beautiful, lovely walks, not too far from Harrogate/Leeds/York etc...think the Tour de France is going through the villages next year.

We stayed here a couple of years ago:

http://www.stainersfarm.co.uk Very close to Pickering. Lovely cottages with a children's play area - swings, slide etc. We travelled into York on a couple of days and also visited Whitby and Flamingoland (http://www.flamingoland.co.uk/).

Lovely holiday - we plan to go back.

    • Well I did say I stand to be corrected! Fair enough, their website only seemed to list three branches. Perhaps it's a franchise model?  It's known as 'agglomeration' in economics Rookie error.
    • I didn't know there was a word for that — thanks!
    • This is just normal business behaviour. That's why there are so many coffee shops in ED and shops selling gifts and interiors stuff, clothes, restaurants.  If there's more than one business of a similar type then it can benefit all of them up to a saturation point and keep up quality. It's all sounding like many think Chango has made a malicious move when it actually sounds like it's owned by one guy who has a good business that has done well.   Anyway this is all great advertising for both empanada places. Very close by is the organic grocer who sells really good value and very tasty samosas and other Indian snacks which are also worth trying.
