I had to post this as I've had the tune in my head all day especially the lyric:-

"I've been up all night again

party time wasting it's so much fun".

And I haven't heard it in years and I've lost my copy of the album and it's a bloody great song.

Roxy Music - Mother Of Pearl

dans le sac vs scroobius pip offering a free download of "Message from God to Man", good stuff.

"It was You that invented bombs, and the fear that comes with them

And it was You that invented money, and the corrupt economic systems

You invented terms like just-war and terms like friendly fire

And it was You that didn?t know when to stop digging deeper, when to stop building higher

It was You that exhausted the resources I carefully laid out on this earth,

And it was You that even saw these problems coming but accredited them little worth

It was You that used my teachings for your own personal gain

And it was You that committed such tragedies, even though they were in my name"

It's Keith Richards 64th birthday today and seeing as he is a national treasure and a hero of mine I felt the need to put this up. This isn't what you'd normally hear from him, just Keith and an old piano, doing some nice Hoagy Carmichael with cool pictures too.

Happy Birthday Keith.

The Nearness Of You/Sing Me Back Home

I was thinking today about how gerry and sylvia Anderson are so well known for the imagery and marionettes of thunderbirds et all.

There was a ting on about them on bbc4 this evening. Yet again nobody makes mention of how brilliant the soundtracks were.Sure theres some cheese in there but also some very cool experimentation, to really set the scene. A mr Barry Gray.Did it all. Much of this was pre synthesizer and is spine tingling at times.

Without doubt the 60's dr who soundtracks where the best thing ever, such a miss hit with the modern day dr who's.

check Delia in action, the lady who made that theme tune happen back in the day. oh, whatdoyaknow. video unavailable..

Delia Derbyshire. A hero. Ron Grainer wrote it, just the melody. She assembled the whole thing out of tape loops. Early doctor who's soundtrackwise, are works of art. Most bbc radiophonic wworkshop audio was. But, check captain scarlet also for great instremental moments of tension.

Oh and the use of bongoes also. Thunderbirds bongoes are really funny. They really work. Totally ripped off in James bond movies, if you ask me.my 10p.

The beeb broadcast a documentary about the Radiophonic Workshop sometime last year, should be easy enough to rustle up on your p2p app of choice, or failing that http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OIkgYiSIfQE has some clips, at some point the show showed exactly how they made up the Dr Who theme amongst others.

yes its was quite awesome and will no doubt be repeated. you tube seems to have censored all the clips that were up. I did a wee search. http://www.audiomastermind.us/2005/12/03/alchemists-of-sound-1-hour-video/ The bit i was going to put up here, is where she demonstrates how to make a rythmn with a few tape recorders and tape loops.

Its gobsmacking. She matter of factly just..does it as shes talking. yet its pure skill that only someone who does it daily can be so accurate with.

Alchemists of Sound is the docu to watch.

howdy Shu.

    • Rant ahead: You're not one of them but unfortunately, there's a substrate of posters here that do very little except moan and come up with weird conspiracy theories. They're immediately highly critical of just about any change, and their initial assumption is that everyone else is a total fucking contemptible idiot. For example: don't you think that the people who run the libraries will have considered the impact of timing of reconstruction on library users? (In fact, we know they have - because they've made arrangements at other libraries to attempt to mitigate the disruption). After all, these are the people that spend their whole working week thinking about libraries and dealing with library users (and the kids especially). You don't go into the library game for the chicks and fame - so it's fair to assume that librarians are committed to public service and public access to libraries, including by kids. Likewise the built environment people (engineers, architects, construction managers, project managers, construction contractors, subcontractors or whoever is on this job) are told to minimise disruption on every job they do. The thing that occurs to us as amateurs within 30 seconds of us seeing something is probably not something a full time professional hasn't thought about! Southwark Council, the NHS, TfL, Dulwich Estate, Thames Water, Openreach - they're not SPECTRE factories filled with malevolent chaosmongers trying to persecute anyone. They're mostly filled with people who understand their job and try to do their best with what they've been given - just like all of us. Nobody is perfect or immune from challenge, and that's fair enough, but why not at least start from the assumption that there's a good reason why things have been done the way they have? Any normal person would be pleased that their busy, pretty, lively local library is getting refurbished, and will have more space and facilities for kids and teens, and will be more efficient to run and warmer in winter. But no, EDT_Forumite_752 had kids who did an exam 20 years ago, and this makes them an expert on library refurbishment who can see it's all just stuff and nonsense for the green agenda and why can't it all be put off... 😡😡😡
    • I completely misread the previous post, sorry. For some reason I thought the mini cooper was also a police vehicle, DUH.
