Pulp - Sunrise

Heard it when it was quietly championed on XFM a long time back one morning after an all night file munching session, funnily enough just as the sun was indeed rising. A great song, so good in fact it even got me listening to music in English again for a few months.

Think this may have been performed on their show they had in the USA. A group which enjoyed enormous popularity to the detriment of their health, their songs can be found at pretty much any karaoke-box in Japan worth its salt and have been covered countless times and are often performed on musical impersonation shows to this day. If you understand the language, the lyrics to this song are as really funny and its a timeless classic really.

Nice selections Mockney and Jah.

I loved Cat Powers' version of Wild is the Wind. It was also done by David Bowie and Nina Simone (with whom I share a birthday).

In one of Feist's videos was fellow Canadian hiphop artist Buck 65 (aka Richard Terfry). He sounds like Tom Waits rapping over mellow hiphop beats. His song

is a great cut from his album Talkin' Honky Blues.

and have to push these every now and then

"hey you get some grace you're like kentucky fried chicken but without the taste

hey you get some grace you know you're driving miss daisy all over the place

hey you get some grace you're a fucking disappointment to the human race"

This "tribute" act get bandied around every now and again. Unlike many Japanese tribute bands, these guys did it for fun. The lyrics are a hilarious interpretation - the basic meaning is pretty much the same, but the choice of words to convey them, along with the enunciation is incredibly funny. Even if you cannot understand a word of it, I'm quite confident at least some of the humour, love of the originals and the cheekiness of the performance will shine through :)) So in essence, its a performance to laugh with, rather than at. Shame I couldn't find a live performance.

Junko - Winner of tons of Jamaican dance hall competitions, speaks with a Jamaican accent these days...

She's pretty famous "back home" these days, as dance hall has a pretty big and fervent following.

    • Portable ramps are available for businesses to use in this sort of situation, aren't they? I don't know whether one would be suitable for use here, or whether they have the space to store one. Lots of people have  permanent or temporary disabilities which mean they have to use crutches or a wheelchair.
    • I can’t remember where I read that figure but this article in the Grauniad from 2023 discusses Ocado results from 2022. The average shopping cart fell to £118 from £129 the previous year. But Ocado lost £500m that year on approximately 20 million orders (circa 400k orders per week). So, averaging out to £25 lost per order. Ocado pauses building new warehouses as annual losses balloon to £500m | Ocado | The Guardian  Obviously, the £500m loss includes various factors. But Ocado has existed for 25 years and only made a small profit in a couple of those years. The rest have been huge losses. Yet it continues to raise funds and speculation sends the share price up and down. In that respect,  it’s like the UK version of Tesla. Meanwhile, the main growth in the supermarket sector has been for Aldi and Lidl, who do not deliver.
