Shu.Kurimu.Sensei
Pulp - Sunrisehttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=76kaUk6y2j8Heard it when it was quietly championed on XFM a long time back one morning after an all night file munching session, funnily enough just as the sun was indeed rising. A great song, so good in fact it even got me listening to music in English again for a few months.Jesus Jones - The right decisionhttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bQh4s0k7Uqg&feature=relatedWhatever happened to fun bands like these eh?Pink Lady - UFOhttp://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wdoRbc_wxHU&feature=relatedThink this may have been performed on their show they had in the USA. A group which enjoyed enormous popularity to the detriment of their health, their songs can be found at pretty much any karaoke-box in Japan worth its salt and have been covered countless times and are often performed on musical impersonation shows to this day. If you understand the language, the lyrics to this song are as really funny and its a timeless classic really. barrymarshall
Nice selections Mockney and Jah.I loved Cat Powers' version of Wild is the Wind. It was also done by David Bowie and Nina Simone (with whom I share a birthday). In one of Feist's videos was fellow Canadian hiphop artist Buck 65 (aka Richard Terfry). He sounds like Tom Waits rapping over mellow hiphop beats. His song is a great cut from his album Talkin' Honky Blues. Shu.Kurimu.Sensei
The greatest music video in the multiiverse, of all time:http://youtube.com/watch?v=RJvM1B_mfDgJoousama http://youtube.com/watch?v=FlGrpENnSrkhttp://youtube.com/watch?v=Yhh7Vx6Xfc4This "tribute" act get bandied around every now and again. Unlike many Japanese tribute bands, these guys did it for fun. The lyrics are a hilarious interpretation - the basic meaning is pretty much the same, but the choice of words to convey them, along with the enunciation is incredibly funny. Even if you cannot understand a word of it, I'm quite confident at least some of the humour, love of the originals and the cheekiness of the performance will shine through :)) So in essence, its a performance to laugh with, rather than at. Shame I couldn't find a live performance.Funky queen busker:http://youtube.com/watch?v=QNNmfGY5gPc&feature=relatedJunko - Winner of tons of Jamaican dance hall competitions, speaks with a Jamaican accent these days...http://youtube.com/watch?v=dtzlKlkQs9wShe's pretty famous "back home" these days, as dance hall has a pretty big and fervent following.
