We don't use Deliveroo very often but we had a terrible experience last night with the wrong food being delivered and having to reorder and then waiting for an hour for the original order to arrive (COLD). I wouldn't normally post but I wondered if anyone else had had this problem. This is actually the third time something has gone wrong with an order (previously the wrong food arriveed - like last night, and another our delivery was sent to the wrong address - 2 hours to sort out by which time it was 11pm, and like I said we hardly ever use this service, so it appears to occur every time we use it. I am so over Deliveroo and Pizza Express - NEVER AGAIN!

Yes. It happens. We ordered Deliveroo "Bang Burgers" once on a Friday at 6pm. They turned up at 9.30pm....

We refused to accept them and got a refund.

Luckily we had some pizzas in the freezer.


These companies get so busy at peak times and the service drops.


We still use them, but are more likely to order collection from Meat Liquor or Yamo etc....

Companies like deliveroo and Just eat charge the business a massive amount to list them , host their menus and deliver yet pay peanuts to the delivery guys and girls

Basically creaming off profits from local businesses just because it's easier for the consumer to use an app then loom up the business on their own website and call up to order.



As Foxy said, it's better for the business to order direct and even better if they have their own people to deliver or you collect.


Hopefully now the worst ( ? ) Of the pandemic is over people will return to going out and not relying on delivery services as a friend who owned a restaurant described them " they are just parasites" although like Ken points out, not using delivery services possibly means you are cooking and eating better.

I work fairly long hours, so we tend to use deliveroo probbaly far too much....!...for takeaways and for small grocery shops as well to top up the weekely ocado shop.


When it works fine its great, and to be honest thats 80-90% of the time. But when theres a problem there is very little in the way of easy solutions which can resolve the problem then and there. What I mean by that is that if you want a replacement order, you're probably better off just ordering again and getting a refund for the original delivery.


Getting a refund for wrong, cold and damaged items is really easy through the app. Just hit the 'order help' link in the top right of your screen, then there is a bunch of options where you can flag which items are damaged/cold/missing, and if its a small amount its almost instantaneous that you'll get a refund of credit to your deliveroo account. If its a larger amount then someone might call you (either later that day or next day) to ask for more details and the refund might not come through until the next day.


Thats all good an well...but if you want to eat dinner a refund doesnt do much for you, and unfort the Deliveroo driver is in no way incentivised to return your items to the resturant or go back to get missing things. He/she just wants to got to his next order as quick as possible. I even had one driver that when I opened the door I actually saw him drop an item on the pavement cracking the container (it was a ramen...so which drained all the liquid out and just left dry noodles and a few veg), and then try to give it to me. I said I was not accepting it, as I had just seen him drop it (which he denied, despite me seeing it and pointing to the massive pool of ramen liquid on the pavement!). A stand-off ensued and he ended up refusing to help, and left it my front garden and b#ggering off....I complained on the app straight away, and the next day I got a full refund from deliveroo of the meal and the delivery fee, plus an extra tenner in credit for my trouble...but ended having a couple of slices of toast for my dinner that night!

But the comment about cooking and eating better still stands on it's own.


Delivery companies are adding to the obesity crisis by making it easier to order food that could be considered less healthy

Just be warned after GBK in East Dulwich screwed up our orders repeatedly (usually forgetting fries or substituting items)we started having refunds denied and were told our account had been marked for fraud. We closed our account at that point.

well i have had 4 FULL REFUNDS from just eat

most of the time it's the restaurant that screws up the delivery company only deliver

The chippie on North Cross Road is just about to start using delivery services but has been quoted that they take a 30 to 50% commission for each transaction.


That's a ridiculous amount and if that's true across all small restaurants then for them to make money out of it they may have raised their prices


Is having an app to feed your junk food addiction worth paying higher prices for or is it better for your bank balance, fitness and the environment to simply walk somewhere and collect the food in person 🤔?


Cut out the middle man and deal directly with local businesses is my advice.

This is accurate. The various delivery apps want exactly that kind of cut.


Also, that?s *BEFORE VAT*! So if you spend ?10 with them, they have to give at least ?3 to the app and another ?2 to the government, because VAT is still charged on hot food for takeaway. This is why I think Deliveroo etc are scum and I don?t use them. I go and get it myself and make sure all the money goes to the business.

A lot of them have higher prices on the apps to compensate.

Personally I couldn?t agree more. I recognise there are people in situations for whom it may not be an option, and I don?t judge them. I judge the #%^* out of the delivery apps though. They screw the restaurants, they screw the poor drivers, they sit in the middle making fools of everyone.

well the amount of restaurant's on the apps and no one MAKES them go on it you have to ask yourself why do it ? they're in business to earn money and they are not stupid. and the mark up on fast food is a lot bigger then a lot of people think the cost of chips on Brockleys Rock is ?3.35, mushy peas ?2.55 so the mark up is quite good

It's simple Ken

Peer pressure, they fear that if they aren't on the app then their rivals are and that they will lose sales and by being on it they hope and have been sold the idea that they may get more sales.


But the honest truth is that they lose out to the middle man (the app company) who acts like a pimp and takes money off the workers

    • We are talking Sunday not Saturday! Is Saray the one opposite Brockwell Park? Think it is - always quiet when we have been there but we eat early - forgot that one. Thanks. Food was ok not bad not good but staff are nice - that was six  months ago. Ohh excellent as you are a veggie too.. Will check out Dai Due Fratelli - thanks. No Thai I am referring too is up a few shops from Oxfam Book Shop… 
    • I think the Italian you are talking about was the old pizza place which is now closed and chicken shop in it's place? There is a nice Thai restaurant called Chern Thai on Grove Vale that should be open at lunchtime Saturday. I am veggie too btw. Peachy Goat in Herne Hill is good, but depends on the ask as it's kinda burgers and pasta and not the cheapest. I tried the Turkish in Herne Hill, Saray, round the corner Saturday before last and will be quiet but the owner is super sweet and it's not expensive. If you are happy with pizza / pasta, you could also do Dai Due Fratelli which is good food, friendly and attentive service at good prices on Lordship Lane.
    • Thanks pinkeyes - not what we are looking for lunch on Sunday. Prob saved Eats Dulwich time too! umm not sure what to do about Love Dulwich - gather guys and staff that ran it no longer do— not impressed with bloke I spoke to and doubt it will be busy on Sun - would love to be proven wrong ….. just have a bad vibe but we will see. Never had a problem with Vietnamese place as been there many time - but not for six months - might just trot down on Sat and see if staff are still the same. Johnnies have new team as well! Gail’s closed - that is not a surprise as was going down hill when I last went. Well folks, can anyone suggest anywhere else? That offers more than a green or mixed salad for my vegetarian folk? Can be Asian or Thai as well - anyone been to the place on Half Moon Lane near Bookshop or has that changed hands as well.. Might just settle for pizza in West Dulwich along Rosendale Road unless they have changed chef and hands. Must be somewhere in East Dulwich that caters for the odd vegetarian - maybe not but find it amazing that nothing in East Dulwich.           What is the Italian like in the side road by East Dulwich Station? Think folk have mentioned it was good - no idea what it is called.
    • Yes, that was why I deleted my post! Only not in time, it seems! I realised I had mixed up two restaurants!
