DulwichFox
I have sown various seeds,, Coriander... Oregano... Rosemary... Basil... All sown in Fresh New compost .. Nothing seems to be germinating... Also seeds from Chillies and Peppers.. Placed on window ledge and pots covered with cling film like mini gtreen houses. How long do seeds take to germinate ?? Spartacus
Best to look up for each individual seed type Plus if they are old they may take longer or not germinate at all Be thankful, my potting compost is also growing toadstalls this year 😁 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/307254-herb-seeds-not-germinatig/#findComment-1575525 Share on other sites
another annie
Where was your seed compost stored before you sowed the seeds? If compost is chilly from being kept in a shed or outdoors seeds will take longer to germinate or might even rot before they get a chance? Del in ED
I?ve had seeds from same pack germinate a couple of weeks apart, in same tray. Also, direct extended sunlight seems to speed up the germinating process. And, once germinated I remove the plastic cover they seem to strengthen better.Patience required ! They should have a "sow by" date on the packet, but some will still be viable long after this Did you water them after you sowed them? Also, they don't need a lot of compost on top, just a sprinkling Rosemary is usually grown from cuttings, not seeds, in fact I didn't even know you could get rosemary seeds! Spartacus
I read this week that if you want to aid germination put then somewhere that keeps the bottom of the seed tray warm including but not limited to , on top of the fridge freezer Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/307254-herb-seeds-not-germinatig/#findComment-1576237 Share on other sites
