Worth a try to appeal against - I've managed to get 2 tickets overturned recently. Its a bit pot luck and will be turned down on first appeal by default.

I'm in favour of School Streets as a whole, but them being during holidays etc are just taking the mick.

Townley Road used to be a normal road to drive along a couple of years ago. During the lockdown Labour controlled Southwark decided to change this and other roads in the area and now they are roping in millions of pounds in fines even on Bank Holidays!

It's a disgraceful situation and Labour will hopefully pay for it at the next local elections.

The only judgment I've found supports that view on bank holidays when the relevant Order is silent on the point:

5. In my opinion the argument put forward on this review

by the Council that where no exemption is expressed in the

Order then no exemption can be inferred to apply to Good

Friday is a compelling one. I am of the opinion that the

Order does apply on Good Friday. The only days on which

the prescribed hours do not apply are Sundays. They appear

on the face of the order to apply on all other days including

bank holidays and other public holidays.

Sign seems perfectly clear to me, so what's the problem exactly?

I assume the problem perceived by the OP was that some people may assume that the sign doesn't apply on bank holidays; just as some don't realise that the sign is a prohibition, or one that that applies to their class of vehicle. Which is a real problem, if you think it's regrettable for people to unknowingly and unnecessarily commit themselves to a ?65 debt for just the benefit of passing the sign.

Sigh. I wish I'd seen this before getting caught on the next bank holiday Monday! I find it to be very confusingly placed signage if not familiar with the specific rules and location in advance... vey harsh also for those struggling with bills at the moment.

    • What a bunch of pieholes. 2025 and you peasants have nothing to be grateful for. I have been inside the library recently and honestly the old girl is crying for a facelift, the goddamn carpet looks like it survived the world war and some. The Library is one of the oldest in Southwark and you are crying about a study place? What a bunch of bullshit. You have libraries all around you for your kids to go their studying you rotten sausage. How about be happy that the library is going to look absolutely stunning rather than be a whining bitch about it   Also, I have been told that the staffs have to work in the smaller libraries together. How do you think they feel?
    • I would like to recommend Aaron, who has just finished 5 days plastering work in my house. He is professional , polite, tidy, punctual and reliable. He did a fantastic job, a good price and a top quality finish. Highly recommended! Aaron Manser 07773 410661
    • Sadly, but not unreasonably, councils find it difficult to justify such expenditure on their current budgets. My family, which does like fireworks have been enjoying the displays by those still with disposable wealth by viewing them from Hilly Fields. Other hills (Dawson Heights) are available. For children who have autumn and winter birthdays, a firework display is some consolation for their birthday climate. My grandchildren, being summer babies, can enjoy garden parties and picnics. Without the need for explosions and dazzling display.
