chicknic
Hello,I have two lovely pet chickens and was wondering if anyone else had chickens in the area? My neighbours are great, and look after them while we are on hols. But I am on the look out for a fellow chicken keeper, just in case we are ever away at the same time or so they might have someone to contact if they have any questions while we are away. Ours live in an Eglu and I would really recommend them as a pet - fresh eggs every day, Mmmmm!!! bawdy-nan
WE used to have chickens at the nursery my children go to but they got eggcised (!) after a flurry of parent bird flu fear. I often used to do the letting out and egg collecting over weekends and dream of owning my own patch of garden and keeping chooks. chicknic
The unusual pet thread about chickens is my boyfriend :-)You don't need masses of space to keep just a couple of chickidees. I was thinking of asking Dog Kennel Primary school round the corner if they wanted to watch them for a week if we go away. Thought it could be a fun project for the kids, but didn't really figure in parental paranoia on bird flu. Maybe not sure a great idea.... Peckhamgatecrasher
I have been flirting with the idea of keeping chickens. Would be more than happy to look after yours for a week to see if we are temprementally suited. Moos
PGC, first you show your partisan underbelly, and now you're flirting with chickens. Is this the reputation we want for Ady's Road? :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3106-pet-chickens/#findComment-96382 Share on other sites

tiddles
any problems with foxes?? we were toying with the idea but since we often see foxes hopping over the fences during the day, thought they may become a target. I know the new 'runs' are foxproof, didn't want to keep the chickies completely cooped up all day long. ChavWivaLawDegree
Hi,I got four chickens a few months back and just as they all started laying, a fox got 3 of them. i was gutted, especially as it was my fault, I'd forgotten to put the cover to the run back on in the evening. I got another 3 and have made sure I locked tham back up each evening and they seem to be doing fine. My dog seems to keep the foxes away during the day and both him and my kitten get on great with the chickens. They are brilliant and really funny so yes I think everyone should get some!
