Taxi companies for women in labour?

My partner doesn't drive, realised at 38 weeks we should at least have some idea of how to get to hospital,was induced last time so think we went on the bus... Anyone know of taxis companies which may take a labouring lady?

I used Addison Lee and went up to UCLH, we told them on the phone I was in labour and they didn't seem to mind. This was 2 years ago.

I just called the Keen Group who we always use. I didn't tell them I was in labour and the poor young taxi driver didn't quite know what to say apart from shouldn't I be in an ambulance!! Can't imagine it matters too much as Kings isn't that far anyway :)

If you are comfortable enough to go in a car then any local company should be fine. However, if you suddenly find yourself in full on labour and not able to move much then do call an ambulance. Good luck.

Camberwell Cars took us twice in two days. Same guy as well. He said they do a lot.

We used panther cars and they knew I was in labour. Didn't phase them although he did take all the roads with speed humps which didnt exactly help.

We also used Panther Cars, don't think my husband even mentioned I was in labour. It was early morn on a weekend, my husband said the driver went through all the red lights as there was hardly any traffic about. I was sucking away on gas and air (was hoping for a home birth!) He wished us all the best brought our bags to the lift & I presume left a bit shell shocked!! I think most taxi companies will take you. All the best!

We called Addison Lee and my partner told them I was in labour. They said they'd inform the drivers in the area and see who fancied it... Clearly no one did, so after a little while we called Rye Cars instead who were fantastic.

My suggestion would be to Keep a few numbers handy. When I was going in to be induced I had to ring around several firms as no cars were available.

That reminded me of my first labour when we had to rush to hospital at the last minute; the taxi driver took me and had no problem with me screaming all the way there and asking him not to stop at traffic lights; this was after my waters broke and 1.5 hours before I had my baby. I don't think we told them I was in labour though.

If you go early in labour you should be able to get any cab and get to hospital without problem.

I used Dulwich cars. I was very much in labour with a tens machine strapped to me. Again, like others, the driver didn't seem to mind. Even when I shouted at him to go easy on the speed bumps!!
