Brendan
There?s a bunch of rowdy teachers outside my office. I fear they are going to disturb my lunchtime perambulations around St James Park. Brendan
They really are making an awful racket. I don't want to go outside for fear of being struck down by a hail storm of blackboard dusters or maybe being told to take my hands out of my pockets. KalamityKel
Tell ya wot I'll pop over divert their attention by chucking a couple of apples away from your office... should give ya time enuff to escape :)) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3127-teachers-strike/#findComment-97385 Share on other sites
*Bob*
I'm surprised they have time to strike.. what with having to get up at 4am to mark papers, marking those papers well into the night and having to spend their meagre 13 weeks of holiday time marking papers every day too. (Not the teachers I know, who - just between you and me - enjoy their jobs and the free-time perks that come with it) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3127-teachers-strike/#findComment-97425 Share on other sites

david_carnell
Bob, for someone who freely admits to wandering around in his dressing gown and slippers late into the afternoon criticising teacher perks may be a tad hypocritical. Would any of us notice if the Musicians Union called for a downing of tools? ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3127-teachers-strike/#findComment-97439 Share on other sites
*Bob*
Probably.. and imagine the difficulty of trying to march, shout slogans and mark all those papers at the same time. Phew! *Bob*
Hee HeeI may moan about crappy aspects of the industry in work to others in my line (and be assured there is plenty to moan about), but I won't be asking for (or expecting) any sympathy from anyone else. It's my choice. It's a free world. I can do something else if I don't like what's on offer. *Bob*
It's not just the writing of the muzak that takes the time, it's the emptying out of the crumb tray. People always forget about this unpaid aspect of the job. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3127-teachers-strike/#findComment-97468 Share on other sites

KalamityKel
Ooooooh don't get me started on the whole teacher strike bollox... starving their pupils of an education for a few more pennies in their pockets... shame on them! *awaits "you don't know what you're talking about" comments to be thrown way* Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/3127-teachers-strike/#findComment-97705 Share on other sites
ChavWivaLawDegree
Maybe if we valued our teachers enough to give them a decent salary, we'd have more than one in every bunch of schools that actually manage to educate our kids. Asset
It's a little melodramatic to accuse them of 'starving the pupils of education', one day is not an issue really and is making their point. Brendan
Missing the issue as always folks. Teachers in the UK are not badly paid but they aren?t particularly well paid either. The thing is that teaching is the most important profession in any society*. So the issue is, do you want to make the profession attractive enough to attract and retain the highest calibre of people? More money is the most obvious way to do this. *Disagree if you like but if you do I will take this opportunity to call you a fucking idiot in advance. *Bob*
That's fine, Brendan. There's nothing wrong with wanting more money, and nothing wrong with wanting to attract the best. But for God's sake ask them to put a sock in it about 'the marking'.
