The place wouldn’t take Amex due to “a problem” twice last week. Nobody had a clue as to when Amex would be accepted again. Shelves were oddly empty but only a few of them. It’s clean, bright and not crowded and I got what I’d gone in for (and a few things I’d not had on my list). 7.5/10

I went in there just after 5pm and it was reasonably busy with customers, but was able to walk straight to a self-service till and pay.

I like the fact it's open until 9pm so I can grab some food as there's more food than the Poundland's in Camberwell and Peckham.

a lot of shops won't take amex as the charge is a lot more than the other banks from the business ....think your find that's why  i know 3 shops that don't take it so i use one of my other bank cards ....easy

Thing is, Poundland does accept it and has for ages but this branch has an ongoing IT problem, it seems. I had no other card and no cash the first time I went.

  • 1 month later...

I went into Poundland just to see if anything had changed since it opened.

It struck me that quite a few  of the things they are selling can actually be bought a lot cheaper elsewhere, eg tea lights, so I'm unclear quite what is the point.

I did buy a bright yellow dustpan and brush for £1.25. Bargain (if it doesn't disintegrate the first time I use it 🤣)

I don't think they (the company as a whole) claim items will cheaper than anywhere else...?

"Poundland"

Is there actually anything for a pound?

Seems like their original USP is no longer valid. Just another shop.

    • I am trying to find out about people's experiences of the 4+ and 7+ assessments. I am a teacher and have a wealth of experience tutoring for theses assessments (including my own son), but it's always good to keep on top of things as they always make tweaks to them. TIA!
    • "You have no idea why"   To be fair Sue, it's blindingly obvious to anyone who has a conversation with anyone who isn't a Corbyn supporter. And even some who liked Corbyn (like me initially) found him somewhat flaky even at his most popular But let's say you are right and I have NO idea why anybody might not vote for him. They still didn't vote for him. He lost two elections. The second one badly (and strongly predicted but the stubborn old goat wouldn't budge so we we were stuck with Johnson and another 3 million PMs in the 5 years that followed) So even with ZERO evidence, we have our eyes and ears and brains But we do have evidence   https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/27022-their-own-words-why-voters-abandoned-labour
    • As I said, it was my understanding. I worded it very carefully. I didn't/don't know for sure, so clearly not a fact. And hardly an "opinion", which is something completely different. You have no idea what reason anybody might have had for not voting for him (unless you can point to some opinion poll results which actually asked people?)
