We are experiencing an issue with a blocked sewer on the odd number side of Belvour Rd.

Both us and our nieghbours are affected with gurgling and waste water bubbling up through low outlets like baths etc. We both have a "man hole" in the back garden unpleasently full of waste etc.

There is a main sewer running between Belvour and Melford towards Underhill Rd, so other properties may be affected.

If you have the classic signs of a blocked drains (toilet water levels lower than usual, raising higher during a flush before going down, gurgling in other drains - e.g. in the bath as you flush/use other taps), you may want to contact Thames Water. The more people affected, hopefully the faster it will be fixed.

This is a Thames Water's responsibilty (they are aware of this), since our drain connects to at least 1 neighbour before connecting on to a main sewer line - changes in 2011 put the responsibility for fixing on water companies for these situations.

So far this has been ongoing for 5 days with no signs of a fix. The odd tanker is being sent out pump out to lower the levels a bit, so you may have seen these in the area. Unfortunately instead of everyday as promised, we've had about 2 in the 5 days.

If you are affected please be active in keeping Thames water to task.

Rather than use these expensive o845 numbers, here are some alternatives, however I cannot guarantee accuracy.

I also live in Belvoir Road and am somewhat of an expert on the sewer having had drainage problems in the past. It runs down our back gardens as far as the single storey house that is at the bottom of No 5's garden (actually accessed from Underhill Road) - where it terminates inside the house in the bathroom.

There were people there on the weekend trying to unblock something - I haven't had a problem so far, and assumed it was confined to that property.

Thames Water may not have a record of this - control passed to Southwark Council at one stage which is when planning permission was given to build an extension on top of the access to the street sewer.

    • It wasn't an antique and bric-a-bac shop but an antique market with a number of different traders, the cafe supported all the dealers in bringing in custom, and was good enough to generate trade for them. It was Rodney Franklin's and his partners enterprise, he previously had an antique shop in Queenstown Road in Battersea. His late wife ran the cafe (she was a very fine actress, it was a 'resting' job).  It was on the corner of a junction on the left as you head towards Camberwell. And almost opposite, if memory serves at all, an MFI style furniture outlet.
    • i used to go there in the late 80's and '90s (?) the food was served cafeteria style and there was limited choice, but what there was alays tasted amazing!  The garden was an absolute paradise, you could sit in it to lunch in the summer!  i've tried to locate its site but Walworth Road has changed so much since then - does anyone remember the house number?
