Photography walks

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I vaguely remember a photography group in East Dulwich many years back and from memory, I think Mockney Piers (formerly of this Parish) organised some photo walks.

Would anyone be interested in resurrecting this? I think it would be great if can can get a mix of skill levels and we can try and help each other.

Perhaps we can do an initial local photo walk and have a chat about all things photography related afterwards in a local pub or cafe?

I work as a documentary photog and I’m usually about making street portraits and I’m particularly interested in film (but happy to shoot digital too).

I belonged to it for a time.

There were 2 parts to it

  • A Flickr group
  • Walk and pub

The core of the walk came from regularls at CPT (now Great Exhibition) and some EDF People joined.

The meets were often in winter evenings and often involved tripods etc (this was pre smartphones).

You then posted best pics to Flickr.

The walks were unstructured. I remember getting side tracked by a specific building and struggling to find the group.

For some reason it fizzled out.

    • Dog kennel isn't a great name for a school. I agree that it's ridiculous for the name to put anyone off going there, but don't see any issue with them rebranding if the parents and children prefer a new name. The school is surrounded by historical 'groves' (reflected in the names of Camberwell Grove, Grove park and Grove Vale for example), so it's not a totally random name.
    • It might help if there are body cams to record evidence and a presence maybe a deterrent but I very much doubt a park warden would intervene with obnoxious and violent thugs - children or not. We need police for that.
    • I had a leaky toilet cistern and Niko came out the same day and not only fixed the leak but thoroughly cleaned off the years of calcium build-up. His attention to detail was matched by his kind humanity. The result was a completely renovated toilet which has never worked more efficiently as well as 'service with a smile'. MANY THANKS NIKO!!!
    • I am trying to find out about people's experiences of the 4+ and 7+ assessments. I am a teacher and have a wealth of experience tutoring for theses assessments (including my own son), but it's always good to keep on top of things as they always make tweaks to them. TIA!
