Large ginger and white cat - taken to vets

Earlier today a large ginger and white cat was stuck up a tree and then apparently hit by a car in Ondine Road. It was taken to the Neighbourhood Vets on Lordship Lane.

I'm hoping it was chipped and its owner has been alerted already, but I'm posting this just in case.

Sorry but I've no further info – I was asked to post this by a neighbour.

Fingers crossed the cat is OK.

It was my cat, Bertie. He was up a tree on Marsden Road and had to be rescued by the Fire Brigade. Luckily the vet from The Neighbourhood Vets was on hand & took him straight there. He is microchipped and I was contacted. He is now at North Downs Specialist Referrals as he had quite a few complicated injuries. A badly broken back leg is being operated on today and if all goes well he will be home with me at the weekend.

I think he was chasing squirrels.

A reminder to have your cat microchipped & keep the information up to date & have insurance!

That's brilliant that the fire service still do things like rescue cats stuck in trees!

Unfortunately having back garden access didn’t help Bertie. He & his two comrades have direct access to a 100ft back garden & we have high side gates & I’ve never seen them go out the front. But I can’t control what side access our neighbours have. I think Bertie chased a squirrel through a neighbours garden & out to the street. I think his lack of experience on the road led to him being hit. Just really bad luck.

Considering he had multiple small skull fractures & a badly broken leg I don’t think catching birds was on his mind.

I really hope Bertie is on the mend. I had one horrifying instance when my cat got out the front, ran into the road and was paralysed by fear as a car approached - luckily they stopped. I sometimes chase cats out of the road as cars approach, just in case.

Bertie came home Saturday. The operation on his leg went well & he‘s on cage rest for 6 weeks. We don’t know yet if he will regain any of his sight & he‘s still being tube fed. Licked some Lick-E-Lix this morning so some slow progress.

So thrilled to hear, my cat had to be put down several months ago, so i am pleased Bertie is facing a positive outcome :)
