looking for a sandy beach

margate for the kneesup muvver brown type break or broadstairs for the more refined, train from the rye to bromley sth and then the ramsgate train, takes about an hour.

Watergate Bay

The best beach I know is Watergate Bay - 2 miles of sand facing due west in Cornwall. Great surfer dude style, good but expensive hotel, cheapo surfer barns, camp sites, B&Bs, Jamie Oliver 15 restaurant or fish & chips / pizzas. Newquay 4 mils away if you want to party all night.

SE London inmates ususlly do East Sussex & Kent

kent has some wonderful beaches, but they are often word of mouth and not very well signposted, so difficult to get to unless you know the area

Exactly where I was going to suggest where I spent many a happy weekend in my childhood. Still relatively unspoilt but has become a bit of a trendy kitesurfing spot. About 1 hr 45mins from here in the car -not really accessible by public transport I tend to go A20 - M20 off at junction 10 and then cut across the Romney marsh.

Er Holkham is fantastic but 120 miles or so from SE22 with country roads for the last half ....if the tide's out theres a small sandy strip by Blackfriars

True, wasn't exactly thinking of the odd day trip more like a long week end, which is where Mrs. E and I will be next week end.

Note for burglars: Master Eccentric will be in residence all week end so don't bother.
