The really annoying thing about Friday night was I tried to phone 3 local friends for them to go over to our house to tell my husband that i was stuck on the motorway but everything was fine but they were all on Orange as well and I couldn't get through to them either - I'm really losing my patience.

Orange merged with T-Mobile which are both now under EE (who are responsible for delivery of connectivity). I had some problems last week (for the first time after getting 18 months into a two year contract). But things seem to be ok now. Two masts were reported elsewhere on the forum as being down, with repair to one imminent (and I'm guessing that one has been repaired, hence return of my connectivity).


I also found out that where T-mobile and Orange had masts next to each other, EE are removing one, and that has led to some problems. Also they have been changing some of the mast technology and that has led to problems too and where there are problems it seems to be primarily with 3G connections and below. G4 customers have seemingly been spared all this nonsense.


My view is that in a capital city that's not good enough and we should complain.


Still it could be worse....we could all be vodaphone customers!

After countless times of losing the signal at home (Nunhead) I've finally called Orange. Got someone decent but apparently it's due to the work done for 4G - it's basically been at the expense of 3G. Masts are being taken out of commission and your phone is essentially trying to connect to a mast that is no longer working.


To get something done, there needs to be lots of people registering problems.


I was told to reset my phone to 2G for a week and call again. Frustrating as I don't see why I should be paying for 3G and only getting 2G. But basically I was told it couldn't be escalated until I'd tried this. BUT, if you're having problems, try this for a week and then call them - it'll help save a stage in the process.


I suspect that lots of people calling are the best chance to get something done. Otherwise they're just going to wait until we all go over to 4G anyway.

Well - that explains it. Down AGAIN! It's been like this on and off for months. Thanks for the update nunheadmum.


I'm on the phone to Orange tomorrow and expect to be fobbed off for a week in the same way, but at least will be registering it like you say. What are you meant to do in the longterm if you don't have a 4G phone - presumably cough up loads of dough for one you wouldn't have needed in the first case if they hadn't taken away masts. Completely predictable!

When we say Orange, we're talking EE right ?


Mine's dropped off so bad in Sydenham i'm considering another network

If you are Too close to a transmitter then you could be in the Signal Shadow (Umbrella Effect)


The Signal will be passing overhead.

Hmmm....


I can see the transmitter from my gaff, in fact it's really close


But that never effected my reception before


Unless the umbrella size changes

      Doubt you would have got much change out of £150.00 for battery and certainly having forked out for it, best to use your car. I recently sold  my car via webuyanycar.com - very pleasant experience & was roughly what I was expecting. Pop your bangers reg jnto their website to get an idea of price - they do send e mails once a fortnight/month just as an aid for you. Easy enough to delete - don’t even have to read valuation. They literally buy any car - if you can’t get it to them, they will charge you to get it there or recommend a co that will do it for you. Must say, mine was a 2014 reg and whilst a bit suspicious, paid extra to get money into my account as needed it for next car but was assured funds had I not gone down route I took would be in my account within 5 days. I now live in the country - every time I have been back to Dulwich and surrounding area, normally get a fine for driving at wrong time or parking at  wrong time so if I drive now, park in West or East Dulwich and do everything else by public transport and walking.  Were I still to be living in ED then before I left was pondering this very issue but since I have been back regularly for health reason I no longer drive but take the train and then buses, walk or Uber. Much cheaper than running a car and had I stayed, that would have been the course I would have taken. I don’t go out everyday, have an allotment or job to go to or family so in my case, would be cheaper not to have a car.  Was truely shocked   at the cost of second hand cars…..but where I now live only has a smattering of buses so no choice but to have wheels to get from A to B etc.

      If you don't use the car often then suggest disconnect the battery between use by undoing the earth (negative / minus sign) cable from the battery and the battery will then last longer between use. Remember, central locking, alarm, clock, etc won't work with battery disconnected and wit ours I have to lock the doors with central locking before disconnecting battery as only have key on one door (leave bonnet open before locking doors). Hope this helps

      Ahh shame about the cost of replacing the battery - especially (and I am assuming here) as the car probably isn't worth that much.  I do, however, think your decision is better than scrapping the car.  I will still update the results of our "experiment" in case this is of interest to others.  I absolutely refuse to scrap an otherwise perfectly good vehicle (especially as ours is ULEZ compliant - despite its age).  Nor am I enamoured with the idea of driving more just to keep the battery going.  If this little £35 gadget does the business then I shall be very happy.  We shall see......... Enjoy all those extra journeys, though if our gadget works then you might benefit from purchasing one and trickle-charging from time to time to save you having to make them.
