As a ploy to scrap the No. 12 bus route, the frequency was reduced from every 5 minutes to every 12 minutes about a year ago. The claim that covid had reduced passenger numbers was touted as a reason at the time.

Now that the No. 12 is safe (for the time being) and (according to WHO) Covid is over, passenger numbers have started to steadily increase to a point where the infrequently of the No. 12 makes it crowded at most times of the day.

Isn't it time for residents and councillors to campaign to TfL to increase the frequency of this much used bus route again ?

TfL are launching a campaign  "highlighting the value and benefits public transport offers people with all travel needs and budgets", the organisation said.

This comes as they say buses are near pre pandemic levels of usage.

BBC News - Tube passenger numbers at 85% of pre-Covid levels, says TfL

with this information, why are we still suffering a reduction in bus capacity locally (no 12 for instance) as logically increasing frequency will help get more people using buses and out of other forms of transport.

and before anyone uses the "cars slow buses down" line, the 12 was reduced due to falling numbers during covid.

Just seen that the no 12 service has been changed to every 13 minutes

So rather than adding more buses make it a reliable service, TFL have made it more sparse and therefore more crowded and reduced the impetus to use public transport 🤔

Up north or anyway outside London, you’d be lucky to get one bus an hour. Still a good service in the grand scheme of things.

Maybe just get the 40 to Elephant and Castle and swap buses there? 😴

When I lived in the country, there was one bus a WEEK to the nearest large town, in the morning, and one bus back in the afternoon of the same day.

This was to enable people to do their weekly shop. Luckily, I had a car 🤣

I haven't had any issues with the 12. We are lucky that it starts at the top of Barry Road, so at least going in that direction it is easy to get a seat.

Although if you are going further than Peckham it's quicker, as you say, to get another bus and change, because the 12 goes a very long way round to get to Camberwell Green and onwards from there ...

    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom.
    • This is so helpful, everyone, thank you. @green bean Yes we have just (as of yesterday) installed the same external blinds you mention! We already had blackout blinds and we now have the external awnings too. Of course that will guarantee the end of the summer sunshine but I can see that they're going to be helpful as they let the light through but not the glare of the sun - I'm fed up of working in darkness with both the blackout blinds closed on sunny days. We'll see how we go with those for a bit but I reckon we'll get a couple of quotes from the other recommendations in case we end up going the whole hog. @penfold Love the idea of getting solar+batteries to offset the electricity usage so will look into that.  Thanks, all.
    • Yes Sally, I've emailed him several times since Xmas. I don't contact Councillors frequently but when I've done so over the years, I've found them generally engaged and responsive. It's unprecedented to just be ignored and, regardless of the query I'm raising, that's worrying from the point of view of  our local democratic voice. Its a Councillors role to represent local people! A different thread on here made reference to a lack of response from one of our ward councillors and, since there are only two, I'm guessing it's the same one. I'm following up my own concern separately but I'm asking on here about whether others have had the same problem. I'd like to think it's a one-off but, increasingly, I suspect it's not. Hope that gives a bit more context!
