Vintage old oyster air king FS c, 1964

model 5500 with usual 1002 case back, serial 9xxx so 63/64 production- doesnt look its age .

runs well to a few seconds a day. Classic old watch. It use a Vostock Amphibia or Omega dymanic  these days and the air king is a bit small for me tbh.

Awful non original steel strap was replaced with a generic leather one. Not been serviced in my time and is nearly 60 years old, so assume it not still waterproof - would need a reseal if you wanted to use it in water i advise. not bothered me but its important with these oysters to get em done and its a straightforward and regular job for an independent rolex service outfit

after £2K easy sale as I am looking into to get an old classic car for the ULEZ stuff.vv.jpg.2241429abfad25f09a6bbdd16aeb118f.jpgvvv.jpg.1d7a5693caf5cd296a5c42ded21b44fa.jpg

thanks

ETA , might consider a trade up/down for rolex, even if its broken I might be interested in buying it to restore

    • Because of the weather which delayed completion with roofer only being able to work certain days, it was up from November - end of January. Went slightly higher than gutters (we also had guttering replaced).
    • It's tough being a courier and the pay which is largely based on the number they deliver is miserable. Hence the staff turnover is high. EFRI was previously branded as HERMES but they had to create a new brand name because of poor performance. We get regular courier deliveries and EVRI are by far the worst. They just drop the parcel at the front door - often without ringing the bell. But worst is when they deliver to the equivalent door number on LL instead of ours on EDG. Best are ParcelForce, DHL and DPD by a wide margin.
    • I know the couple you mean, and she has always been friendly and smiley when delivering to me, but obviously in a hurry, for all the reasons outlined in the thread. My gate is always open, however (unless someone coming to the house closes it when they leave). I can't see the point of gates that have to be opened and shut again every time someone comes to the house. It just seems a waste of time, and it's annoying if you are carrying stuff. And a closed gate  conveys a sort of "my house is my fortress" feel. To me, anyway.
    • Thanks for posting this. Really interesting. It would be good if you added a star rating, so that it was easier to do comparisons / see what your top recommendations are. Great blog though!
