Infant / Toddler Car seat for holiday - advice needed

So were going away in August and have decided to take our own car seat rather than use the hire car company as so many people have said you either don't get one or if you do its old and knackered.

So my next question is whether people can recommend a cheap but safe / sturdy Car seat for a 1 yr old that will become our holiday / granparent car seat.
