Strange Nocturnal Animal Calls

Has anyone else heard a strange animal call over the past few nights, near the junction of Colyton & Dovedale? Very distinct, four or five throaty chirps every few minutes, almost sounds tropical. First thoughts were a pheasant or some type of owl, could possibly be foxes but haven't ever heard them make a sound like this before. Very odd...

I've managed to edit a video I took the other night to isolate the calls - any ideas anyone?

(Yes I know I should've used an audio recorder but I didn't have one on my phone and didn't want to miss it!)

It's the mating cry of the lesser spotted Essex girl lamenting to suitable males that she's just dropped er chips

Yes I hear that in my garden..quite eerie sounding and very loud assumed it was foxes.

Following some investigative research aka Google searches, disappointingly it would appear to be just foxes, not some rare owl 🙁

Although I'm still mystified as to why I've never heard this call before, having lived in the same flat for nearly 20 years and constantly having had foxes & cubs in the garden throughout that time...

Oh well, mystery solved!

Thanks for posting that. I've also heard those noises and always wondered what they are. I assumed it would be foxes but wondered if it was frogs in the Wildlife Gardening Centre (https://www.wildlondon.org.uk/nature-reserves/centre-wildlife-gardening)

a couple of years ago i was woken up on more than one night by what i can only describe as a robot groaning.

or a person sighing through a vocoder. coming from the garden or somewhere close.

 

freaked me the hell out.

Sounds like dulwich fox .who's not been heard of for quite some time.maybe he's back .locked in someone's garden shed

Dog fox, vixen does the screaming. Wonderful ED wildlife comes up to my 1st floor balcony to eat their takeaways then shit in as many places as possible and scent mark anything vertical, even the front door. Just spent an hour scrubbing as the smell has infiltrated the flat. Bearing in mind my brain is bigger than theirs, I should be able to solve this problem.
