Have your say / express your interest: New pavilion for Streatham & Marlborough Cricket Club

Streatham & Marlborough is a non-profit, volunteer-run, community cricket club based between Forest Hill and East Dulwich, though we also play matches in Peckham Rye Park, Mayow Park (Sydenham), South Norwood Lake, and sometimes Hilly Fields.

We provide cricket to more than 500 playing members - girls, boys, women and men. In 2023, we organised 482 matches and delivered around 49,000 hours of organised cricket for the local community.

Our pavilion is very near the end of its viable life, and we are looking to replace it.

A building survey in 2023 reported that the roof, walls flooring and foundations are all in an advanced state of decay, as well as the electricals and plumbing. In 2022, a part of the building collapsed during a storm.

The report estimated it would cost over £500,000 to repair, which is not viable.

We feel the building needs to be replaced as soon as possible, because if we become unable to use the building, the club would most likely be forced to close down and would be lost forever.

The club is investing £125,000 raised by members to complete the design phase of the project, and we have £450,000 in grants towards the construction phase. We are in the process of applying for additional government grants of roughly half a million pounds to make the project happen.

We hope the new building will be widely used by other community groups when it is not in use for cricket. For example it would be well suited to yoga, pilates, martial arts, gymnastics, dance, Scouts/Guides, amateur theatre rehearsals...or...you name it!

If you help run a group that might be interested in using the space, we like to hear from you (see the last question below).

We invite you to let us know your views via this extremely short (three questions) form:

    • The big difference, other than increasingly flaking paint, seems to be graffiti. The question is, will that/ can it be controlled?
    • I took back my 🤣 because I think the idea is unworkable expensive and would produce little result.  There seems to be people in the office next to the toilet but I don’t think they leave the office. I’m not sure what they do there.  The toilets have been in a disgusting state for months and months with many promises to repair they are not functional and they invite vandalism. I shall  try to add a couple of photos. The council doesn’t care why should we?
    • There will always be kids pushing the envelope as the saying goes, but having some boundaries should help most understand what they can and cannot do. I think dedicated, daily park wardens is exactly what is required...with a hotline to SNT teams on the beat. Is there no way money made from Gala or from Park parking fees can be diverted to provide that funding? I feel it would be a really good use of money. The principle aim being to maintain the park as a safe and relaxing environment for all. If funding really cannot be found I wonder if there might be funding to at least train volunteer park wardens?
    • Its almost the same as Grove Vale School , now Goose Green School.
